I have never had to remove any jewelry - and I have never even beeped. Gold doesn't beep through metal detecters - it is searching for heavier metals I think!
Both my engagement ring and wedding band are platinum and I've traveled a lot with them and have never had to take them off - they've never caused the security thing to beep.
I've got a platinum wedding band and platinum engagement ring and they dont' beep. I do take my watch off though.
I used to take it off because I didn't know better, but one of the screeners told me that I don't need to take them off because they don't contain enough metal to set it off or something. She said it's a really bad idea to take them off actually because sometimes the little bowls will tip a lot and the ring can fall down the sides of the belt and get lost! Glad she told me that!
no, you don't have to remove your ring!
I've never had to remove jewelry at the airport...just belts!
Nope, don't remove your rings. Small amounts of metal like that won't set off the detector.
i have only ever had to remove a thick silver cuff bracelet, because it was a heck of a lot of metal. i was actually surprised that it set the metal detector off! never rings or earrings though.
I don't remove any jewelry at all. Just another reason to lose it or someone swipe it. I don't even take my watch off and it's a hunk of metal.
I wouldn't take any of it off. Even my watch goes through undetected so I am def no risking taking off my ring when I go through.
Don't take it off. Even on the totally weird chance that it would make the metal detector beep you can always show them.
I wish I had read this thread earlier! I took my ring off when I flew over the holidays and tucked it in my shoe. The conveyor belt to the scanner was held up for a bag check, but the TSA officials kept waving people through...so the bin with my shoes and ring was out of my sight for an unnervingly long time. Luckily, my ring was still in the bottom of my shoe when the scanner finally caught up, but I wish I had saved myself the anxiety and not removed it in the first place!
You definitely don't have to...if you did I would have known that I was being proposed to because FI had it in his pocket (must have figured that I might go through our carry on looking for something). He even called the airport to ask if he would set it off with.

I'm going on a trip on Tuesday and it will be my first time traveling with my ring. Do I have to take it off when going through the metal detector? I usually take off my necklace just because I don't want to deal with being stopped... but just wondering if any of you ladies have had experience - did you take your ring off or leave it on??
