Help we are having a heck of a time trying to find a great resort in Riveria Maya under $3500 for our honeymoon. Any ideas? We really want to do Excellence but it is almost $4000. Our honeymoon will be in August.

Also what websites can you register for your honeymoon?

    Thank you!Innocent

If you're willing to wait till you get closer to your date, travelbyjen.com has AMAZING deals on all-inclusives, including those in Riviera Maya.  My FI (then boyfriend) and I went to Secrets Silversands last October for $750 each including airfare and tax!!!  It was adults only, very high end, and all inclusive.  We had an amazing time, and definitely didn't break the bank.  But I dont think the website advertises anything beyond 4 months out.

I just checked the site and she has several options in RM available in the $800 or less range, including air, depending on your departing city.

We are looking at Secrets Maroma beach, and I believe that some of the cheaper rooms are less than $3500 for 7 days

I also went to Secrets Silversands, also.  I would read tripadvisor's site though about the resort.  So you know what to expect.  If you have very high expectations, this might not be the resort for you.  I had a great time. I think it's a very nice adults only, all inclusive resort and the best deal.  If I go to Rivera Maya again, I will definitely go back to Secrets Silversands.

@yrret107: what do you mean by HIGH expectations? What things there were not as great as other places?

We are staying at Aventura Spa Palace for our honeymoon and it was under $2500 for a week, that also includes a $1500 resort credit to use toward spa treatments and tours....

Did you check out if the Excellence is having a promotion? If I recall we got 20% off at our time of booking, and one of our friends actually ended up with 35% off. They do run promotions from time to time and imo the Excellence is definitely worth the $$, so keep checking back!!

The Excellence will price adjust too---so if you book now and see a lower price later they will give you the lower rate.

We stayed at the Excellence Playa Mujeres in a 2-story rooftop terrace room for 6 nights last June. It was $2925.

@Lunakim77: If you read the reviews from tripadvisor, you'll see.  Secrets Silversands is considered a 4.5 star resort, not a 5 star.  Some people go there expect it to be a 5 star resort, but it's not and so they are disappointed when they go there.  I read the reviews before going so I knew what to expect and I was 100% with the resort. I would have spent another $1000 for a 5 star resort and I honestly it wasn't in my budget.

I just have to say....when we were in our shuttle to go to the Excellence Rivera Cancun, we stopped at the Secrets Silversands to drop a few people in the shuttle off. I have to say from the view of the resort I was able to get, it really did not look as great as I had expected it to and I was really glad we did not book there. Make sure you know what you are booking for.

I've been looking at Secrets Maroma.  The cheapest rates I found for that resort were through hotels.com.  A ocean view room was 3300 with a flight from my location (new orleans).  There was another room ... I think partial ocean view that was less than that also.  There site has a wedding registry on it also.

Yeah, me and the DH were a bit worried when we first arrived to Secrets Silversands.  I think it is surrounded by protected parkland on 3 sides.  But once we got to our room, we weren't worried anymore.  We had an amazing time.  It was definitely well worth it. Like, I said, I would read the reviews on tripadvisor so you know all the pros and cons.

I wrote a thread about my honeymoon. http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/our-amazing-honeymoon-to-cancun-secrets-silversands

If you're trying to keep it under $3500 I would really recommend that you go someplace amazing, but keep it at 5 or 6 nights, rather than going to a place that's just so-so for 7 nights.

we just booked our honemoon for secrets maroma and got a GREAT deal at around $5,000 for 2 weeks so I imagine you could stay within your budget if you're looking to stay a week.

also, Secrets Hautlco is opening early summer of this year and they are running an amazing special, $99/night for a standard room (and nothing at this resort looks standard) if you book by a certain date. i would definitely check out their website.

I loved loved loved my experience at Secrets Silversands, but then again I paid $750 for a week, including airfare (caught a great deal right at the tail end of the swine flu scare).  It's a lovely resort with beautiful pools and amenities, and the beach is gorgeous but not very swim-able.  The food was oustanding, our basic room was amazing, etc.  We took a little bus to shop in Playa del Carmen and really wish we'd been closer to the shopping all along. Playa has some really gorgeous little cafes and shops.

Where ever you stay, make sure you do an excursion to snorkel in the cenotes (underground rivers/caves)!!! Its freaking amazing.

We just came back from Mexico, we stayed at the Moon Palace resorts. It. Was. AMAZING. That place is paradise! We had all-inclusive, which made it pretty expensive... I'm not sure but they may offer packages for closer to $3500.

@nursein10:Glad to hear you felt safe.  I was wondering about that.  Did the resort warn you not to go into town?

    @Lunakim77:

We just got back last week from Mexico.  We stayed at the El Dorado Roayle and everyone was super friendly.  Honestly I don't know how much it cost because my company paid for it but I will say all inclusive is the way to go.  We stayed in the Casitas and everything about the resort was AMAZING!!!  We went shopping in Playa Del Carmen and I felt very safe.  Probably wouldn't roam around without someone else with me but that is more because the guys that own the shops try very hard to get you in their shops to buy stuff. We even got left behind in town so we hung out a little longer and then took a cab back to the resort (which was suprisingly very cheap).  My only suggestion is to kind of stay in the tourist areas if you go off the resort.  I would have no worries about going back at all just make sure and stay aware of your surrounds.
