While I was out at the rehearsal dinner someone stole the crystal embellished sash to my wedding gown out of my hotel suite!!! The gown was only out of my sight for 4 hours during which the room was turned down and my sash (the only embellishment on gown) was stolen out of the zipped garment bag containing my gown and veil out of the closed wardrobe. The sash was on a hanger, the hanger was still in the bag but the sash was gone. I discovered this the night before my wedding, but before I totally freaked out I waited until the next morning so my parents could go home and be SURE the sash was not there. I woke up on my wedding day to the news from them that the sash was officially gone. The first thing I did was cry my eyes out on my wedding day.
I then contacted the hotel management about the theft. They came up with the maids and searched the room while I was getting ready for the wedding day with my bridal party. It was NOT the wedding day morning I’d imagined at all. It was total chaos. The management was tearing sheets off the bed, suggesting perhaps I’d slept with the sash. They also asked if I’d taken out my own trash….in a hotel because it was possible I’d thrown it away. Seriously?!! It was a mess and eventually the management told me they didnt’ believe anyone on their staff had taken the sash. If it had been somehow a random hotel guest, then I would imagine my laptop and other valuables would’ve been taken as well. I seriously just cannot believe I got robbed on my wedding day.
The only offer from the hotel was to buy a replacement of the sash. The room wasn’t comped, the management never directly apologized to me, I even sent a letter to corporate telling them about the experience and have yet to hear anything in response to a letter and multiple emails!!! Considering that we chose a Kimpton hotel because they were known for customer service, I am still continually shocked at how terrible the customer service really was! I am shocked even corporate hasn’t bothered to attempt to make this situation right or even discuss what happened! I will never ever be staying in a Kimpton hotel ever again since clearly they could care less about customer satisfaction.
Even before the sash incident I’d had all kinds of problems with them from the wrong date being on the contract, a change in carpeting in the ballroom that changed the color scheme completely with no forewarning or notice from the event manager, requests to try the food and drinks we were serving were just ignored, and you don’t even get to taste everything you’re serving at the wedding!
If I could do it over again I’d NEVER have chosen the Hotel Monaco, nothing but grief for two years straight and I paid them over $25,000 for the pleasure.

@VADCBride: I’m so sorry! Were you able to get a replacement? I’m sure you looked lovely in all the pictures, and someday you’ll be able to tell this story to your children.

I think I would have burned the hotel down. Thats BS because they know exactly who was cleaning on that floor. if it was someone else stealing from you they would have took everything of value. I would report it too the police and give them a bad review for sure. Sorry that they ruined your day with their lack of compassion. Don’t let them keep you from feeling good about your own wedding.

Ohh that’s terrible! So sorry to hear that your special day was harmed by this.

I am so sorry that that happened to you. I cannot believe that they didn’t even do a search of their employee’s things at least to PROVE that their employees were not the ones behind this!

I’m so sorry that happened to you. Not a fun way to kick off your big day. I’m sure you were a beautiful bride even without the sash, though!
That’s very thoughtful of you to share your experience for other DC brides. I looked at the Hotel Monaco, and my parents really liked the catering manager there. However, we ended up choosing the Willard. Had I known how poorly the Hotel Monaco treated you, I would have crossed them off the list from the start!

I’ve heard of the cash envelopes and even gifts being taken from weddings (which was shocking to me, who has that little class?!) but never out of your room. That sucks. At least it was jus a sash, sweetie, it could have been worse.

And how exactly are we to believe that a random guest got into your room to take the sash?? I’m sorry, but we all know how hotel doors work–you have to swipe yourself in with a card, and they lock automatically! The only people with a card that could access your room would be YOU and the STAFF. That is unacceptable bs.

it makes no sense for an employee will steal a wedding sash – not when there are so many other things to take
true story, my friend got married a year or so ago and it was while we were dressing her that we realized that she didnt have the corset ribbon thingy in the bag – it was left at the dress store when she picked up the dress! could something similar had happened to your sash?

@eloping: I was thinking the same thing – maybe it was forgotten at home or somewhere else. Hopefully that is really what happened.

@eloping: I am hoping the same thing, however, some of those sashes can be worth $1000. Perhaps they thought it wouldn’t be as noticable as a laptop etc. It would be easy to resell and easy to smuggle out of the room.
I’m sorry that this is how your wedding day started. But hey, you are married now, that’s awesome! 🙂

I’m not sure a maid would risk her job for a sash..(to her it’s probably a ribbon) she probably doesn’t know what it’s for.

im so sorry! i would be livid…and i would def call whisle blower 9 on them. (haha thats our local news station and whenever something like this happens and a company is completely unprofessional i threaten this) but in this case i would have totally called the local news station and made a big deal out of it…if they arent willing to apologize or work with you i would call them out in front of the entire city. hopefully people will learn what crappy customer service they have!

Just cause someone works as a maid doesn’t mean they are dumb.
To the OP – that sucks so much. You would think they would at least question staff about it – what if they hadn’t taken it but had left the door propped open? It does seem awfully specific to only be missing that and from out of a garment bag – not saying it couldn’t be stolen but it also could have gotten lost prior to the hotel. Did you search your home or call the store? There was a poster who ended up with a sash she hadn’t purchased in her bag with her dress.
