Hi bees, I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on roles to include everyone who wants to be a part of your wedding? I have two nephews, one is 6 the other is 10. I am having the youngest as our ring bearer but I don’t want the older one to feel left out as everyone else in his family is part of the ceremony. Do any other brides have the issue?

futuremrspresnell: You could maybe make the 10 year old a junior groomsman. I know that’s a good age for junior bridesmaids. Besides that, I’m unsure. He’s too young for readings, being an usher, manning the guestbook, etc.

What sort of area is your wedding going to be at?
When I was approx 10 my younger sister was a flower girl. The bride asked my brother (who was 11) and I to be something similar to ushers. Our role didn’t have a ‘name’ but we stood (I think with our mum nearby) at the entrance to the garden and directed guests down the right pathway. Once everyone was there we went around giving out little bags of rose petals to be thrown after the ceremony.
Looking back our roles were a little bit meaningless and the wedding would have run just as smoothly without us, but at the time it made us both feel very special rather than like the left out siblings.
Perhaps you could find something similar for your nephew?

I think junior groomsman/usher might be your best bet. Alternatively, we had 2 people present the rings (one of my bridesmaids gave my OH mine; then the best man gave me his; it actually worked really nicely).

OneDayMrsL: I love that idea!! I never thought about handing out rice/petals/bubbles. That would be perfect for him!!! Thank you!

futuremrspresnell: No, not that issue … You could have him read a little piece in the ceremony. A nice simple piece, if he is okay in front of people.

In the two most recent weddings I’ve been to the boys helped out as ushers. They walked their grandmother down the aisle (who was the 1x MOG/ 2ndx MOB).

In the UK we have ‘page boys’ – basically mini ushers (age 10 and under). They hand out programs to guests and show them which side to sit on then they walk in with bridesmaids or behind the bride helping carry her dress. They usually double up as a ring bearer here, but its possible you could have two? one ring for each nephew? Like this picture
