Some hotels don’t charge you anything.  We are blocking 15 rooms of at a radisson, and they didn’t charge us a dime.

As JennyBryde had mentioned, some hotels will not charge you. We blocked 15 rooms at the Best Western and 20 rooms at the Comfort Suites with no charge to us. Be sure to check the contract though because one of the hotels I was dealing with said there was no charge but a charge was indeed on the contract. I got it all straightened out though.

Good Luck!

Marriott let us hold up to 15 rooms with no financial liability. Beyond that, we would need to sign a contract and pay for any rooms that were not reserved.

We’re holding a block of rooms at Hampton Inn and were not charged any sort of penalty.  They did give us a maximum of 20 rooms on the initial agreement, but said if we book more, they’ll just add more to the reservation, with no penalty.  From what I’ve heard, a lot of hotels have discretion on how they negotiate reservations.  You should try calling around your area and negotiating to find a hotel that will let you reserve without fees.

The two hotels we blocked rooms at (The Park Inn and The Crowne Plaza) did not charge us anything. We just had to sign a contract acknowledging that any unsold rooms in our block 30 days before the wedding would not longer be available, as the hotel would try to sell these rooms. But there was no charge to us.

We blocked ours 7 months in advance, but only because that was when we finalized what hotel we were going to be at. Check with the hotel. They may do it for you now. But really, this is something that can wait till later if you still want to think about it.

We finally stopped looking at chain hotels (which wouldn’t cut us a break at all) and went with a small simple local hotel that gave us the best summer price in town.  It’s great that you are exploring all of your options!
