I had my wedding last Friday and I purchased the 12,000 petals for my wedding because I didn't know how much i need, and it was cheaper to buy online (for example: http://www.fiftyflowers.com/product/Choose-Your-Colors-Rose-Petals_20.htm) than from my florist who wanted to charge $1000 for the same amount

I realized b/c i had absolutely no idea or point of reference, so I just bought the more expensive/higher count petals, but i ended up wasting half b/c there is no where else to put it unless i put it on all the guest tables.

I purchased 12,000 count, but 6000 was sufficient to cover the following:

    - generously spread on the aisle

    - cake table

    - some on candy station

    - some on popcorn station

    - 6 tables worth of reception duty areas (i had 2 sets of sign-in tables, and it was good amount of petals on it)

so overall, ify ou are wondering how much to buy, unless you want your wedding to be COVERED with petals, 6000 should be sufficient.  I'm a picky bride and I rather over buy so my wedding doesn't look bad or cheap, but in this case, i felt like i wish someone told me how much to buy.  the guests took the leftover petals, it was enough for 6-8 people's dream of "rose petal bubble bath"

hope you guys will find this a good reference point.  Good luck with your wedding!

thanks! i have been wondering exactly this. a couple of questions.

    - were your petals real or fake?

    - if fake, did they look real?  like on the aisle?

    - how much did they cost?

yes i used fresh rose petals, they smelled and looked great!

$200 for 12000 as seen online link

i would suggest to buy real rose petals, fake ones may look cheap if it's bad quality ones and people will be able to tell they are not real

@FinallyGettingMarried:  ya, thats why i asked.  i ordered some from the Knot online store. just one box to test them. they are $6 for 225.  i figured i can use them for the aisle.  but for the tables where we will see them up close, i find they look too fake.

also, i will be travelling to Jamaica and packing my decorations with me, so i am not sure if i can bring real ones in my suitcase and hold onto to them for 4 days. i arrive friday and the wedding is tuesday.

how many days in advance did you get your petals before your wedding?

oh and my other issue is that 6000 seems to be the minimum! way too many and therefore i dont want to spend that much.

but let me know about long you had them before using and i will see if i can real ones somewhere else in a smaller quantity.  i am having a small wedding, so only like 4 tables will i need the petals for.

Rose petals are sooo pretty and elegant, but a word to the wise, if you are using them to toss after the ceremony or down the aisle and are responsible for clean-up... they are not the easiest to clean up. At my SIL's wedding, they got caught under her dress and were dragged everywhere. Just a thought. (but still beautiful and totally worth in my book)

Thanks so much for posting this! It's so very helpful! If you don't mind my asking, how big/long/wide was your aisle? I know you <just> got married, but I would love to see pics of the aisle. Thank you, thank you.

i think my white aisle section was approx 60 feet or so, not short but not super long, it was for 200+ guests worth of seating

let me ask around for pictures - i haven't gotten the professional one back and i dont have the original size pix from my friends yet!

@FinallyGettingMarried: thanks!  guess i won't take the risk then and will keep looking for more "real-looking" fake ones.

Ah thanks so much for this! I just knew I would over order and spend way too much! I will definitely keep this in mind when we place our order :)

To chime in, I too was uncertain. I ordered 6,000 from 50 flowers for a large wedding (220 people, 22 tables, cake table, gift table, dj table, even flowers in the glass candle holders under the tables) and it was a perfect, lush amount! I got them on Thursday, put them in the fridge (clean it out first, they take up a lot of space and food gases aren't great for them), put them on the tables Friday night, and they were good to go on Saturday afternoon. Howerver, do not put them out too early as they were starting to dry on the ends by the end of the evening a little (looked very fallish, fine for me), and when we cleaned up on Sunday they looked pretty bad. Fresh is the way to go, but it would be ideal to have someone put them out 12 hours or less before the reception, if possible.

PM me if you have questions.
