how color sensitive are you? i’ve heard (and seen pics) that a lot of the cuts other than round brilliant show more color…. so maybe you should stick with the round? if you don’t mind color, then i’d go bigger. 😉 ring shrinkage is a real thing- you will get used to the size in a matter of weeks. haha

Theres a few princess threads on the boards and a few round diamond threads on the boards that you could use for comparison.  Personally I think the princess cut diamonds look huge like a .5 looks like a carat to me.  But I prefer round cuts, and when I see a round cut that you can see like a from far I often think damn that thing must be a least a carat.  So its all about personal preference.  Finger size has a lot to with it too I saw a thread on here with women who have a size 3 finger and their diamonds look huge.

Maybe you should look at http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/post-your-princess-cut-e-ring

Awww yay!  You are getting a princess cut pave band 😀

I’d say go with the larger princess cut as well.  Princesses face up smaller, and if your .5 is feeling too small, it is a good idea to err slightly larger.  It will also be the closest to the proportions you love in the stock photo.

Can’t wait to see your ring!

@MerryWidow:  I am going to go against the grain here and say that I would definitely go with the .80. BUT that’s because to me it will look almost no different than a 1 carat round. I have had millions and millions or rings in both round and princess and have even tried them on (not bragging just saying I’m slightly a freak lol) SO my personal experience is that princess’ have always always looked larger to me that rounds in the same size side by side. Idk why. Not sure if it’s the corners , prongs or what they just do. But hey bigger is sometimes better so I say follow your gut! Either way the side stones won’t swallow the center stone in either size IMO. I can tell you however that rounds look bigger when set in 6 prongs vs 4. Not sure why I see it that way. Even the sales associate said “Oh no the 4 prongs make the stone look much larger” but no matter what that is just what I see. I would suggest going to try on a .80 round and princess and a 1 carat round and princess to see what you like best.

Worked for me every time!!
