We are havinf a sit down dinner at the wedding and I am trying to figure out how will we know who has what? I thought about having the people just put the number of fish and the number of steak on the rsvp with out the names and then when at the dinner have them take a card of the choice they picked but then I realized people could just take which ever choice they wanted and then we might be off. how do I put this on the RSVP without being too wordy? I want if people are coming or NOT and how many for each food item with names to know who has what?

I had the top of the RSVP say ___attending  ____ not attending   or something along those lines (I may have worded it more formally).  Then I wrote "If attending please write your full names next to your meal choice".  And then I made long lines next to the meal choices so people would have room for their names, like this:

    ______________________Chicken

    ______________________Vegetarian

    ______________________Children's Meal

I couldn't figure out any better way to do this and I also wanted to have specific cards for people's meals.  Otherwise I figured they would have seen some of the other meals and changed their minds at the reception and we would have been charged more, plus our caterer wouldn't have made enough of a certain meal then and he would have been mad.

Some people still didn't read the RSVP directions clearly enough and just wrote numbers by the meal choices.  We were annoyed because we had to make phone calls to all those people then.  Other people wrote things like "the Jones family" but had only RSVPd that 4 out of the 6 members of the family were coming so then we had no idea who was actually coming and what names we should write on the placecards.  Also annoying.  So just be warned that there will be some mishaps!

I found a picture on google that was great for this, we are doing this idea:

(sorry I can't find the picture again!)

    RSVP

    Kindly respond by _______

____ seats have been reserved in you honour

    Guest _____________________________________

Meal preference    o Chicken    o Beef      o Fish

    Guest _____________________________________

Meal preference    o Chicken    o Beef      o Fish

The guests just write their names in and then check off which dish they woudl like. It's the simplest one I have ever seen. I just went through this problem 2 weeks ago! And the "_____ sets have been reserved in your honour" really helps I hear to decrease the number of uninvited guests!
