I think we need more info before we can make appropriate suggestions. I would say you need at least 3 weeks, depending on whether you are having a sit down dinner (and need to arrange a seating plan), the date at which your venue requires a final # of guests, etc. If you set it at 3 weeks, April tenth or so, then you have a week to wait for the straggler response cards, and then at 2 weeks out start calling. Except, I don't think you should be the one calling (unless it's a close friend and you're comfortable doing so), I would think this could be bridal party task or even get your parent's to call the ppl they invited, your inlaws call their invitees, and so on with your groom & self... hope that helps?
I agree with laurajane. When are your numbers due? Take that date and work backwards. Our wedding's May 17, and the numbers are due to the venue two weeks ahead (!), so we made our "kindly reply by" date April 10 wth the thought that people might see that as the put-it-in-the mail date. We'll give it until April 17 before we start making calls. That way we have two weeks to track down all the non-responders and get the numbers in on time. The invites will go out March 1. Hope this helps give you a guide so you can fill in your own dates!
I'm getting married May 2 and our caterer needs the final count on April 25. Our RSVP date is April 15. Reading the responses above I'm worried we didn't give ourselves enough time. Too late now.

Hello ladies,
What do you recommend for RSVP dates on invitations for a May 2 wedding. Also at what point do you call the guests if they haven't sent in their RSVPs and should I really call everyone that received an invitation?
Thanks!
