I think if you live at home with your parents, then it's pretty common. Also, if they're hosting, then maybe. I live with my FI and our wedding is not in my hometown, so they're coming to us!
They came to us!
It would have been weird to go to my parents because I was doing all the organizing.
We live together so they went to both but they were pre-addressed to my name
Technically they'll be coming to both me and my parents because I'll be living with them for two months before the wedding. But they'll be addressed to my parents, and I think even if I wasn't living there, they'd still be going to my parents who are hosting the wedding.
My parents hosted, the invitations came from them and the RSVPs went back to them. Honestly, I think if the parents are hosting, that only makes sense. You'd never RSVP to your sister for a dinner party at a friend's house; you'd respond to the host, your friend. The wedding invites are no different.
We did set up a google docs spreadsheet that my mom updated every couple of days though so that DH and I could still be aware of who'd RSVPed, who was coming, etc.
Every invite I have received has had the reply card addressed to the couple. We're going that route as well.

Hey bees! Just curious how common it was for RSVPs to go to the parents.
