We started getting them just a few days after we mailed the invitations. Then we got quite a few (3 - 4 a day) for a couple of weeks, and then it really slowed down. There was another sort of rush in the last week before they were due, and of course we had to call some people after the due date (about 10 out of 160 invited).
If lots of your guests have to travel to your wedding, they might just be having trouble deciding whether or not they can attend. A lot of people are worried about the economy and their jobs, and the cost of plane tickets hasn't really come down (in fact, it seems to have gone up). I would just be prepared, obviously, to make a bunch of phone calls - but we'll all keep our fingers crossed for you.
My mom keeps telling me that no one really RSVP's anymore, so not to expect many to come back. I thought that was weird, especially since it doesn't seem that hard to check a box, write your name, and stick it in the mailbox, but maybe she's right. So you may be stuck on the phone a lot if a definite headcount is necessary. *fingers are crossed*
isn't it rude not to RSVP? How can you give a realistic number without RSVPing? we got zero in the mail again today :( we're going to be averaging 10 per day to get them all back which isn't likely since I've only gotten 4 a day max. :|
It's definitely rude. But our society's become so self-centered, etiquette is dying out, it's just sort of become the norm these days to not care. I'd definitely be prepared for some major phone time. Sorry!
We had to call about 40% of our guests after the RSVP date to find out if they were coming. I just divided the list and had my fmil call her side, my mom call our side, and my fh and I called our friends. People are forgetful, they get busy, they put it on the fridge and forget, it gets buried under the pile of mail on the kitchen table, etc... It may be rude, but it is the way it is. Most will be very apologetic when you get to the calling stage!
Good luck.
Caliocteach- did most of them that didn't rsvp say no when you called? I'm assume if they get too busy to rsvp or think about going, they weren't planning to go?

when did you get them back? We sent out our invites super early since many needed to buy plane tixs... and we have them due back 1 month before the wedding...
so far we've gotten back about 25% back... we'll need an average of 8 or 9 per day before the RSVP date... doesn't seem possible :|
did you get the majority of your rsvp right before the due date? were many late? did many not reply?
