I have a weird situation.
We have booked our reception at a hotel. Anyone who has had their reception at a hotel knows that the packages that are provided can be changed to fit what you want. So, for example, if the package includes wedding cake, but you don’t want it to, they’ll knock of a few dollars. Or, you want to add more food options, they’ll tack on a few dollars.
Well, the hotel we chose is currently being built. I realize it sounds crazy to book a venue that isn’t completed, but, its in a sentimental area and blah blah blah. that all aside —
I’m trying to figure out wording for invitations/rsvp cards/reception cards.
I’m stuck on the RSVPs. Our hotel has provided packages for buffets and sit down meals. But, we haven’t decided on a final menu. Realizing, we can sort of come up with whatever we want. So, for the rsvp I don’t know what to put? I’m thinking the easy route is to just go with buffet and not worry about putting anything on the RSVP card.
But, my mother is sort of insisting we provide a served meal. Is there any way I can just have people choose their meal option the day of? Has this ever been done?
Advice? Thoughts? Thanks!

I am going through the same thing now. We are having a seated, served dinner and need to know entree slections before the event, therefore we need to include them on our RSVP cards. We are having trouble ironing out the exact wording, but for now it goes something like this:
The favour of your reply is requested by
(Insert date here.. Ours is September 27, 2013)
Will ______ attend
_____ number attending
___ filet ____fish ____chicken ____vegetarian
Hoping this works out well! Thoughts? Would something like this work for you? My RSVP cards are small, and also have a decorative border around the edge, so it leave me even less room to fit this all on. I’m hoping the “number attending” line will make it fool-proof so that I will have an exact count of people attending. Also, we chose the word “fish” instead of having to finalize our decision between salmon and sea bass…. as my parents cannot seem to decide (I’m fine with either!) We knew from the beginning we’d offer filet mignon.
My advice to you is to go with what you want! If you don’t want the buffet, sit down and work out the menu now, so that you can have what you want for your special day.
We are going either this Saturday or next Wednesday to the store to finalize everything and place our order. I am so excited to have this part behind me! haha it has been very stressful.
