There was a post of this nature awhile back in Emotional, so I wanted to start a similar one to vent this morning's frustrations.

One of those mornings where I'm running late, get in the car, and realize I have NO gas. One stop at the gas station later, I'm running really late, and it's not a good thing.

So...traffic is creeping through a light. A guy coming the other way wants to make a left hand turn in front of me and is edging out. Now, normally, I try to be a good driver and let people in, but I really can't miss this light and he doesn't have the right of way anyways. So I continue through the light.

The guy rolls down his window, sticks his head out and screams "Way to stop, *sshole!" Um, what? You do not have the right of way! The fact that someone fails to do you a FAVOR means you have the right to scream obscenities at them? He could see I was a young woman traveling alone, as well, I could have had children in the car.

Ugh, what is wrong with people?!

I left EARLY for work this morning, and as no good deed goes unpunished, my typically 45-60 minute commute turned into TWO HOURS.  There was a stalled train on my line, the circumvented trains were packed full and I waited for 13 trains to go by until I could get on.  Only to crawl through the tunnels because all the trains were backed up.  I think it's one of those days.

It must be one of those awful traffic days! My train had to stop 4 miles away from my work because of an "emergency" this morning and we all had to get off=I was late to work.

Hahaha! I'm sorry - I'm not necessarily laughing at you...I just moved from Seattle to a small town WAY outside of the city. I grew up with daily exposure to these kinds of situations. I DON'T MISS IT! I haven't had even one case of road-rage since I left the big city.

I take mass transit to work every day, so I'm very used to rudeness. My personal favorite is the grown men who jump in front of me so they can get a seat on the train. Or the people who sit across two seats/put their bag on one seat on the metro during rush hour! Oh, that really gets to me. I really want to ask them, "Did you pay for two seats?!"

I hate this. Hate it. It makes me so angry to see a man who is my father's age flip me off or yell at me because he doesn't like the way I'm driving (whether I did something wrong or not!). These people wouldn't DARE treat me this way face to face, and the fact that they have no shame in their cars is really upsetting to me. It makes me a kinder driver--people make mistakes. I honk lightly if I think it will help somoene correct a mistake (like, if you're about to go into oncoming traffic, I think it's appropriate), but not as retribution. It's just... manners.

@budgetbeautiful: That's bad! But I've had women do the same--one woman was fairly young (I'd guess late 30s/early 40s), and she actually STUCK HER ELBOW OUT in front of me to cut ahead of me. It was so rude. What's wrong with people?

@budgetbeautiful: I will seriously tell people to move their stuff when they do that.  But then again, I live in NYC and people are a little more "stern" around here, to say the least.

One of the things that drives me most nuts is when guys sit with their legs spread so wide that no one can sit in the seat next to them.  Argh!

I know what you mean!  People think that when they do something stupid you should just let them, like the people who drive up a lane that is closed and then want to cut in front of everyone else.  Can't people just be considerate and realize that we are all trying to go places and we should go when it is our turn and not make it our turn.

I commute an hour + to work from NYC every day and it's so brutal. People drive like such a**holes. My favorite are the people in their BMWs/Audis/Mercedes/etc. on the Bronx River Parkway, which for those of you not familiar with the NYC metro area is a super curvy roadway with two skinny lanes, who are trying to go like 80 mph and weaving in and out of lanes, driving in two lanes at once, and flashing their brights at you when you are already going over the limit. I've flipped off many a person on the Bronx River - but let me tell you, I'd flip them off to their face, too, if given the opportunity. It's not just 'cause I'm in the safety of my own car. In fact, I would LOVE to be face to face with some of those people so I could tell them exactly what I think of their driving.

Also, NEWSFLASH nyc drivers - there's this new-fangled device called a TURN SIGNAL that people use when they are indicating a change of lanes. It's really neat. Try it out sometime.

@hotchild - good lord what train was that?!

@budgetbeautiful - I used to take the Metro when I lived in DC and would see that all the time.  it was so rude...

@kittyachi - DH and I have our car in the city and I dread having to take it out of the garage at all to drive...driving here scares the crap out of me.  There may as well not be ANY lanes, because people dont bother follwing those yellow lines, and NOBODY uses a signal.  I feel weird when I put mine on.  Luckily we only use it to get out of the city or back in :)

@KellyV: The 6 at 68th street this morning.  The 4 stalled at 59th and they were re-routing everything on the 6 line.  But all the trains were jam-packed.  It was miserable.

And I'm sure, with the rain, my commute back will be even more eventful between battling tourists outside the World Trade (I work downtown) and dealing with people and their freakin' umbrellas!

@hotchild - Oh no!  I got on the 6 at 77th and it was ok, but that was at 7:11am.  You work right near me too lol.  My office is now in JC, so I take the PATH over, but I get off at WTC and I HATE walking through there with an umbrella.  Its a battle to see who will move their umbrella first.  And the tourists never seem to move them, its amazing.  Im shocked more people dont lose eyes.  Soooo we live AND work near eachother, both from upstate.  Such a small world :)

@KellyV: Oh haha, yeah I work at the World Financial.  I'm looking at JC out my boss's window right now.  This debacle was around 7:45am so you probably just missed it.

I used to work in midtown, and the tourists at the World Trade Center are the rudest and most ignorant tourists in NYC.  Every day I feel like my head is going to explode.

JC is the pits for work.  We used to be at 56th and Madison and got moved.  Lame.  You can de see my building.  Thee are 2 big mirrored green buildings.  Im not the one that gets narrow at teh top (I think thats the Goldman building) im the big regular one.  11th floor.  I overlook the NYC skyline, so its not terrible.  But it taunts. "you could be here!  Youre not though.  haha!"

They really need a train that goes all the way over to World Fi.  That walk is brutal, I have cllients over in there.

@kittyachi - AGREED.  People dont have umbrella etiquette.  Actually, not many people here have any etiquette or manners lo.l.

Speaking of the rude tourists, Im off to brave them now.  And to meet a broker to find a new apt.  Double lame.  Staying UES though!

I can't believe all the rudeness that takes place on mass transit. I wish I could be as stern as the NYC commuters, it's just not as seen as much down here in DC! As for the tourists, ugh, give me a break. I've heard some people start calling them tourons, which fits pretty well!

Another vent while I'm at it: people who stop right as they're getting off an escalator. I've seen it cause a human pile-up more than once!

@Budgetbeautiful: FI and I call them tourons!  Tourists really need some sort of guidelines to behavior before visiting major cities.

Like reaching your hands through the barriers blocking view of the WTC...to take a photo.  I think they should give out tickets for that.  Tourists don't realize what a soft spot the WTC is for New Yorkers, and taking pictures of a construction site that was attacked a few years ago should be a matter of security.

@hotchildinthecity: I work two blocks from the White House, so I feel you there. All the tourons are getting on at my metro stop. Standing on the left instead of the right on the escalators, blocking the turnstiles...UGH! I'm always so glad when summer is over and their numbers dwindle.

I don't live far from work so I usually just walk-- this week I'm out of the city & stuck driving with all the commuters.

I left this morning around 8am & needed a jolt so I pulled into a strip mall that had a Tim Hortons (coffee place) and pulled into the line for the drive through. Well... I had never been here before so I didn't notice that most of their drive through customers line up in one of the parking lot lanes.

I totally didn't notice until this large, angry woman POUNDED on my window. I didn't open my window & she started SCREAMING at me at the top of her lungs! "There's a line you dumb bitch... There's no way I'm letting you get ahead of me- even if I have to lie down in front of your car" I called her a psycho and said if she continued to harrass me I'd call the cops! Then she started screaming again "I have my kids in the car you monster" I laughed & said-- "REALLY, you're going to pull the kid card!? Maybe you shouldn't teach them to scream at strangers then!"

Now, I would have GLADLY let her go ahead of me because I was in the wrong... but she screamed at me & beat my car! I did feel bad because when ever people act awful I think that something must be off in their life & maybe their dad just died or something. Anyway, I ordered my stuff & was getting ready to pay for my order AND hers when the MANAGER of the coffee shop greeted me at the window & told me its rude to cut in line! The cow had told on me to management. I couldn't believe it... I explained the situation to the manager & he said "People are grumpy w/o their morning coffee" lol

Sorry that was long. Grrrr. I just had to vent.

@hotchild and @budgetbeautiful: I am fed up with the tourists too!

I know I should be patient because they are an important part of the economy, we should make them feel welcome in Boston, etc, BUT OMG - my favorite is when they get off the train and stop. Just stop, right on the platform, trying to figure out where to go. Recently a group got on my green line train (and if you are in/ever visited Boston you know how crappy and crowded these trains get)  the group included a woman with a ginormous stroller. They started exclaiming how they never expected Boston to be so busy at 7:30 AM and where was everyone going on "the train that goes to the Museum?" Um HI we're going to WORK on the train that no only goes to the museum but also to one of the busiest areas in town where there are four major hospitals. *Shakes head*

I love visiting fiance in NYC - love the fast-paced New Yorkers not taking any bullsh*t on the trains and on the sidewalks. LOVE IT! Even though I'm technically a visitor when I go there, I love going with the flow. Hotchild, I too am horrified by the behavior at WTC.

Also budgetbeautiful - my sister went to Mary Wash and I miss visiting her in Fredericksburg so much!! I'm very jealous you're there!

Ok that was ranty and random. Now I have to get out of the office an on mass transit. Oy.

@allisonc: There's a big difference between being a tourist and a traveler. We all sound more like travelers, who try to go with the flow of a city. I also lived in Boston, so I feel your pain about the green line!

I hope the rest of her day went better though :) I'm sending her good juju!

    omg Recessionista - coffee rage!

i have pedestrian rage once just for walking on a footpath!  we drive on the left down here so its generally considered you walk on the left and you stand on escalators on the left. anyways i was walking to the train station and walking on the LHS of the footpath and someone was walking towards me and yes, i expected them to move to the other side and stood right in front of my and yelled "are you going to get out of my way?"

umm... no was my response because youre a ****wit and im on the left hand side of the footpath and if i moved any further left i would be walking in the wet grass you drongo

ive seen escalator rage against people that stand on the LHS on escalators at town hall station

Hah, other bees really do have it bad with commuting! I'm surprised people get by with saving seats with bags. Can you just say "Oh, is anyone sitting here? No? Great!" and plop down?

Recessionista, that is weird. I'm going to give the woman the benefit of the doubt and say she was mentally ill or something, but the manager never should have called a customer 'rude' at the request of another customer, not knowing the whole story. Totally unprofessional and inappropriate!
