I am a brand new Bee. I’ve been lurking for a while after stumbling across the site when looking at e-rings.
Bit of background….My boyfriend and I have been together for 20 months or so. We met online (cringe) where I was looking for a bit of fun having just come out of a long term relationship and I accidently met the one! My ex and I broke up after I finally came to terms with the fact that he was never going to grow out of the ‘not getting married and having kids thing’ that didn’t really matter when I was in my early twenties but became a problem as I got closer to 30.
Mr Zee asked me about six months or so ago what sort of rings I would like and so i thought I would have a look. As I am 30 now I am the last one in my friendship group to get engaged so I know by now I want somethng different. Through this site I discovered James Allen and pear cuts and my favourite is this beauty. http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/halo/platinum-pave-halo-and-shank-diamond-engagement-ring-pear-center-item-17438
I showed it to him and left it at that.
Anyway, ages ago him gave me his hotmail password to check something. It’s really silly and obvious so it stuck in my head. We were travelling recently and I had forwarded him the postcode (zipcode!) for our destination and wanted to get it for the satnav so i just logged in to get it. He is really open about things like that (I know his facebook password too) so I knew he woudn’t mind. Sat in his inbox was a payment confirmation from James Allen saying that his has purchased a ring (eeeek) and it is THE ring. Well done MrZee! However….since been on the boards I have learnt a lot more about diamonds and I am not sure about his choice. It’s 0.8 carat, VS2, H pear. It’s IGI graded which I know isn’t great. The bit I am concerned about is that i says Pol/SYM: Good/Good. I am worried it won’t look sparkly? It also had a fairly noticable bow-tie which again I think I will just have to deal with knowing abou pears. Anyone got any thoughts? Reading his mind as I can I am sure he mainly went for size as I have said before my sisters 0.5 is too small (I have a size 8 finger) and that I would love to have around this size.
I also feel really dissapointed that I have ruined what would have been an awesome suprise (it really would have been – I didn’t think he could afford the ring yet and he had hinted as such) and that I won’t react how I would have liked. It is also so hard to keep something this huge to myself. I am sooo happy and excited. I keep wondering when he will do it. We are going on holiday at the end of the month and I know I won’t be able to stop thinking about it. I also know that my parents are in on it as he used their address for the shipping address and I know it is arriving today!
Anyone got any advice?! I have sooo much running through my head and you guys are the only ones I can spill too as I don’t want to ruin the suprise of me being engaged to my friends!

Mrszee: I looked on their website and it stated this
<h2 style=”font: 22px/normal Georgia; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;”>100% Full Refund</h2>
We stand behind every item we sell and we want you to experience total satisfaction with your purchase. If you are not 100% satisfied with your purchase, you may return it within 60 days for a full refund or exchange – no questions asked. Many retailers charge a restocking fee for returns; we don’t charge you a cent.”
So hopefully you’ll get your ring before the 60 days are up and then you can nicely tell your FI that you would like to look at a different ring if it wont hurt his feelings.
But you have to be open and honest with your SO if your not going to like it and wont ever wear it this will hurt him more in the long run, but I looked at the link you posted. It’s a pretty ring! I like it a lot.
Plus who cares if it’s not a “perfect diamond” i dont have a perfect diamond. mine has some flaws, but she still sparkles like you wouldn’t believe.
If that’s the ring you really wanted then go for it! But like i said before. behonest with your SO and most importanly be happy. HE BOUGHT YOU A RING! EEEKKKKK 😀

Don’t get hung up on the stats- that’s what the Bee does. The truth is there are plenty off bees with less than perfect diamonds- in fact the vast majority of people have less than perfect diamonds and they are still awesome and sparkly. So don’t stress until you see it. You can’t really bring it up till he gives it to you.
and it will still be a surprise! You don’t know when it’s coming. The TOTAL surprise thing is mostly a fantasy. Again, most ladies these days had some sort of hand in the ring (no pun intended) so just enjoy the excitement and expense!

I’m sure it will be beautiful! Don’t get stuck on the specs…two diamonds with the same specs can look totally different.

MrsBuesleBee is right…..: My diamond is less than perfect. We sacrificed on color (the least important “C” to me) to get a superior cut and better clarity. Everyone in my office comments on how colorless my diamond is. It is, in fact, not in the colorless range. But to the untrained eye, like mine, it looks great and it sparkles like mad!
I would not sweat the diamond stats. When you see it, it will probably look great to you. You aren’t a jeweler and are not trained so see every flaw.
FWIW, I don’t find color a flaw. I don’t mind warmer diamonds….

MrsBuesleBee: You are so right!
My ring is from Zales and my bands are from Helzberg. The ‘Bee loves to hate on chain jewelery stores for their “low quality” but a lot of us have rings from those stores. My diamond isn’t perfect but it was perfect for me. My ring is beautiful and I love it.

It’s hard not to get hung up on stats, but in reality, most people can’t tell. My stone is j in colour, and like a pp, people will compliment me on my colourless stone, always confuses me!
Worst case scenario, James Allan has a really good exchange policy.

Thanks you everyone. I feel so much better now! I think it’s just because I can’t talk to anyone so I am overthinking everything.
I am sooooo excited for the proposal to happen. I can’t imagine what he will do or how he will do it.
Can’t wait to share the ring with you all!

Don’t worry about a thing, girl! The specs you gave sound good to me and I’m sure it will sparkle like crazy. My diamond isn’t as high of a grade as yours will be, but I couldn’t be happier with it 🙂
Also, don’t stress too much about seeing the email. I was with my fiancé when he bought my ring and he still managed to give me a surprise proposal. It’ll all work out in the end.

lovelee1: Thank you! I am already feeling more relaxed having shared.
It’s just such a shock that it is happening so soon. MrZee has recently started a part-time masters and is embarking on a career change as part of it (which includes a pay cut). To fund it he had to take out a £10K loan to cover fees and he is always talking about how skint he is (perhaps he was trying to throw me off the scent!). I had actually just come to terms with the fact that it would be next year!

- Wedding: July 2015 - City Hall!
Mrszee: honestly, I think even if you knew the exact MOMENT he was going to propose you’d still be blown away! The man you love is going to ask you to marry him, and that alone will get an amazing reaction.
