I did the Tinkerbell Half Marathon in Disneyland last year and it was a great experience.  It was my second half marathon. It was tough, but I had so much fun!

One of my big suggestions is…a lot of people wear costumes during Disney runs.  If you are planning to do this, make sure you test it out BEFORE the race.  Otherwise you could chafe, itch, etc.  I chose not to wear a costume because I wanted to be the most comfortable and just focus on my running, not my outfit.

Also, keep in mind that you may have to walk quite a bit to and from the race if you don’t have a ride or drive.  My hotel was probably a mile walk from the start, so roundtrip I’d added two extra miles onto the day.

There are characters along the way and, if it is your thing, you can take photos with them!  Sometimes there are long lines, however, so if you are focused on your time, you may not want to stop.  But bring a camera – there is so much to take photos of!

Have FUN!

I did the Disney Half Marathon this past January and it was a lot of fun!  There was a group of 5 of us who signed up together and wore matching pink polka dot tutus! 🙂

I did the Tinkerbell Half in Disneyland and the Wine and Dine at Epcott.  Disney runs are well organized and the medals are beautiful.  They are also good about having people cheer you on through out the race (which I find very helpful!) The Wine and Dine started at 10 pm- I don’t recommend doing night runs- I prefer morning runs!  I’m not a night owl 🙂

You get discounts on Disney hotels and park tickets.  I saved a ton of money by having my Disney vacation at the same time as my race! Bonus!

If you do a run in Disneyland and Disneyworld in the same calendar year, you earn an extra Coast to Coast medal.  I did it, it was a fun year!!

@Little_Miss_Giggles:  I’m training for the marathon, too. I was supposed to run it last year but ended up going to Paris the week of the race so I deferred. I’m excited but definitely nervous. I made it Mose if the way through my training cycle last time so I know just how much work/time I will have to dedicate and that intimidates me.

Ive run 13 half marathons and 5 of them have been Disney. The races are so well organized and put together. I always recommend them. I had never had any issue until Princess is year but from what I hear they’ve fixed those issues.

@Little_Miss_Giggles:  I used the plan on Hal Higdons site. I prefer to run for distance vs. time.
