@Stephville:  If you are trying to burn fat you need to change it up with HIIT. Interval running is best for melting fat. If you are just running to improve cardio and tone both HIIT and long distance/steady speed should do the trick.

Couch to 5K has interval training that is pretty great. My DH lost 20 pounds in a couple weeks using this program on our treadmill.

I trained for a half marathon and did not lose or gain weight.  I run a 5k a few times a week, about 30mins (10 min mile) and still no weight lose.  But I do maintain and I feel good about myself.

I love my running schedule and it is my time to meditate and relax.

I plateaued for about 6 months after losing 15 lbs. I started weight training and even though the lbs didn’t fall off (I lost another 5) I did start dropping inches.

@Stephville:  yes, you shouldn’t do HIIT 2 days in a row. Alternate days with HIIT and running

@Stephville:  I do Crossfit 4-5 days a week, that is as HIIT as you can get. My trainer is always getting on me to take more days off (I play volleyball competitively as well). It is an intense work out and you will feel it each and every time. I would suggest maybe 3 days a week to start until you build up your cardio and endurance.

My DH does the Couch to 5K program which I believe is every day. Here is some information on this running interval regime: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
