When I started I could barely run a mile. Now I comfortable run 6. I ran a marathon over the summer and was really proud of myself.

@krystal.keel:  Trying to Conceive πŸ˜‰

I’m not a ‘runner’ really, but I do put in about 1.7 – 2.6 miles every other day.  I have my first 5k on Sunday.  I do it kind of as a habit before I go to work.

I ran 4 miles today.  I don’t run it all at once, but intersperse it with brisk walking (like today, I ran 2 miles for my first interval, then ran less in each subsequent interval).  When I started, I probably was running about 0.5 miles at most in one go.

I started being able to do about 4k, now I can comfortably run about 14k before i need a walk break.  Working my way back up to 21k after a back injury. I find running to be the activity where i see improvement the quickest.  Its taken me 6 months of pilates to see significant improvements in strength and flexibility, but with running i feel improvement in my fitness almost every time i do it.

Good luck!

I am very intrigued by this thread.. Ive always wanted to be a “runner” since I am completely not athletic. Think it would be a great challenge for me, especially since I have gained some weight.. this would really motivate me.

But here is the problem I have… whenever I run, I get a sharp pain in my arm and through my chest… like my heart is too weak or something. I asked my doc about it and he checked everything and Im fine but really couldnt explain it.

Has anyone ever experienced this? Anyone know what may cause it and how I can overcome it?

@Sweet.Sugar.Rose: Thanks!  Sometimes I feel discouraged because I’m trying to drop some weight before the wedding and it’s slow going, but it’s good to remember that just being able to run as much as I am is an accomplishment πŸ™‚

@krystal.keel: I haven’t experienced these specific pains, but often when I have a hard run I get severe stomach pains.  I feel really great for an hour or two, but then am very nauseous.  I’ve tried all sorts of research on this, and I think it’s just my body trying to get used to the strenuous activity.  If your doctor can’t find anything that’s a problem, I would think it may be something similar.  Maybe take it a little easier and work your way up, but if you aren’t used to this kind of exercise it will take some time for your body to get used to it.

I run 13.1 miles in my mind!! HAHAHA!!!  I really want to start running again.  I’d love to run a half marathon before I get married.  I better get busy training! lol
