This morning we woke up and found our sweet boy hadn’t made it through the night. I was getting his morning injection ready (he needed insulin 2x a day for his diabetes) when my husband found him. We both held him and cried together and then dropped him off at the vet to be cremated. He was completely fine last night. We found him lying next to his litter box. It looked like it happend all of the sudden and he just collapsed. His eyes were still open. He was only 8 but had severe allergies that he some times needed a steroid shot to control. The steroid shot was bad for his heart. We think he may had have a heart attack. Two weeks ago I was complaining about him having accidents because he wasn’t feeling well 🙁 I feel terrible. He was doing so much better though. I can’t believe how much I instantly miss him. We’re heart broken. I’m really worried for our other cat, they loved each other so much. Right now she still seems oblivious. He’s the handsome orange one…

@ImaStarr: I’m so sorry for the loss of your family member. The picture of the two of them cuddling is beautiful.
Don’t feel guilty for anything! He knew he was loved and he was grateful for the care you gave him…..I am a Vet Tech and animal behvioralist and yes, I promise you, in his little cat mind, he was grateful for you and your husband and the home he was provided with.
Best wishes and virtual hugs to you and your husband during this time.

I’m so sorry! What a handsome fella. But at least he went quickly and peacefully… so many elderly kitties have a long and painful end. Hugs to you!

Gah. Horrible news. So sorry for you. I hope your other kitty does okay. I thought my cat would do badly when I had his best friend of 17 years put down (aggressive cancer), but he didn’t miss a beat. Hope your survivor champs through it too. Again, so sorry for your loss.

Thank you, everyone.
@lolot: I always assumed we have to make a really difficult decision some day. I am very relieved it was quick, it was just so sudden 🙁
@ChicoryCreek: He really was the most grateful of all of our pets. I think what’s the hardest is that he was the most reliant on us. I keep wondering if we did something wrong – but honestly I don’t think I want to know if we did.
