Ugh I’m so sorry you’re going through this. We tried for nearly a year only to have our first scan show that the gestational sack was empty. It was heartbreaking the thought of going through all the trying again. I got pregnant the second time much quicker though. Sadly that ended in miscarriage as well but I’m not a typical example.

I really hope everything works out for you though. The waiting is the worst part. Do you know for sure that your dates are right? Keeping everything crossed for you.

hnblomquist :  it’s no guarantee for you, but mine was 6.5 weeks when I expected 8. All I remember is a blob and flutter too and I’m at 24 now. Good luck to you!

Out of curiosity, what more were you expecting to see? At 7 weeks, the embryo is still very small and heartbeat is just beginning to be detectable. My scan at 6+6 we only saw the fetal pole, yolk sac and HB. I did not see a little gummy bear type baby until our 8 week ultrasound.

At 7 weeks, a normal heartbeat is 90-110bpm…which your baby’s heartrate is in perfect range. Did your doctor do measurements of the embryo? What was her basis of thinking you were earlier than expected or things weren’t developing normally? The good news is that once a HB is seen via ultrasound, the viability of pregnancy can be assessed and the range of continuing a normal, healthy pregnancy is 70-90%.

When was your LMP? And when did you ovulate/get a BFP? Is it possible your dates are off, even by a few days? That can make such a huge difference in development this early on. I wouldn’t let yourself worry yet, fwiw. The presence of a uterine pregnancy with a fetal pole, yolk sac and heartbeat are all perfect signs for 7 weeks.

I agree with BeverlyGeese. Do you have a picture of the scan? There isn’t much to see that early on! Keeping my fingers crossed for you that this is it! I know how nerve wracking it is to have to wait without knowing if things will work out. *hugs*

this was my scan at 6 weeks 2 days  (no heartbeat heard)

And again at 7 weeks 1 day (although it was measuring a couple days behind). Heartbeat was low 100’s.

Based on my LMP I was supposed to be 9w at my first scan, but I was charting and convinced my OB that I was actually 7w. The US showed an embryo that measured 6w6d, which would have freaked my OB and I out if we hadn’t been expecting it. If you aren’t charting, as others said, it’s totally possible you ovulated a bit late and the embryo is perfectly on track. Will keep my fingers crossed for you- hugs! I know this is hard!

hnblomquist :  if you weren’t tracking ovulation, I would say don’t lose hope yet. I was 9 days behind what my LMP would have estimated. That’s a huge difference at this stage. Let us know what happens . Best of luck bee.
