Lame! This happened to me once and because UPS said they delivered it, the company wouldn't send another or give me my money back! It's not your fault the driver decided that it was ok to leave the package!
@JoJo Bananas: Yeah, I have a feeling someone stole it. What else could have happened? :( waaaaaa!

I'm sorry, that's awful! We live on a tiny little street in a small town, so luckily I've never had anything like this happen since moving in with DH, but it happened to me a couple of times at the old house, it really sucks! I hope they're able to reimburse you but sorry it won't be in time for Xmas!
I live in a really safe area, so I really find it hard to believe it was stolen...but that's the only conclusion I could come to.
Aww, that sucks. Could you print out a picture of the present, give it to your husband in a card and explain there was an issue with the shipping? I had an issue with shipping a gift for my dad's birthday and that's what I did to kinda fill the gap.
I saw on the news today that thieves stealing packages off of people's front steps are on the rise right now (with it being Christmas week). That's why I always try to order several weeks or months before Christmas, because this is the time of year when people are expecting expensive packages to be delivered and they know that most people will be at work when their packages arrive. It's just sad and pathetic that we can't trust our fellow man to leave our damn belongings alone! I'm sorry this happened to you. I like the picture idea, I know someone that did that once, too.
Thanks. I'll ask him if he wants to know, or if he wants to wait for it.
@luli29: Ugh. Same thing happened to FI about my present. He got an e-mail that FedEx delivered the package today, but there was nothing outside. We live in an aparmtent complex as well. If it WAS delivered and someone stole it, I'm going to be super pissed. He called FedEx and they're looking into it. Thankfully he insured the package so he can get his money back right away. I'm upset though because it's just a frustrating situation to be in.
Something like this happened to FI, except with the USPS. FI had a computer screen (worth over $100) delivered to his computer savvy friend's apartment. It never got there- the USPS guy said he put it outside the apartment door. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HALLWAY. Apparently you have to PAY the USPS for them to require a signature, otherwise once they deliver it it's your responsibility. FI ended up contacting the company, and because they hadn't purchased insurance on the screen, he did get a new one for free, this time delivered to his parents' house. I hope UPS is more helpful that the USPS!
Funny how this is taking place in apartments. I think there should be a rule about apartment deliveries. I honestly would prefer to go pick up my package at the nearest store or post office possible instead of having it SIT OUTSIDE for anyone to steal.
OMG ladies...a neighbor returned it today to our landlord! I'm SO happy!
YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!
Hoooray!!!!
I think it was ABC that just did a story on those that steal packages that are left on doorsteps. They did a whole investigation on it and videotaped people watching out for UPS vans and promptly stole the items right after being delivered.
Needless to say all packages are delivered to me at work, I don't send anything home.
@Treejewel19: Yeah, the free newspaper I get before work had a story about this on the cover. Made me sad! But a good ending to the day for me!
Next time I'll make sure to deliver to my job
Thanks everyone!
I'm SO sorry!!! I know how you feel!
The one year I shipped ALL our nieces and nephews gifts via USPS and half of them were personalized and/or handmade. They were ALL lost. USPS refused to do anything about it even after I badgered them for over a month. I even wrote to USPS and called the two facilities in the US were "misplaced" packages to get sent to before auctioned off.
Some of the companies were nice enough to resend the gifts out ASAP. Some not so much. But the ones that hurt the most were the ones my husband and I made. :(
Who the heck steals Xmas gifts, especially ones that are personalize?!?!?
If it makes you feel any better UPS is REALLY good about refunding people $ for lost packages.

I orderd a gift for my husbanad this past weekend and I got an email saying it arrived at our front step yesterday. I checked with our landlord, who usually gets packages for us, and nothing came that she knows of.
I called the company I ordered from and UPS, and they are filing a claim. It will be about 2 weeks before I see the package, if they do send us another one.
Ugh :(
