I’m like so torn about this wonderful place even though it’s crazy expensive. But anyhoo, it states a 800 dollar sales tax for the county it is located in. I live in the county over. The proprietor already knows where I live. Is it wrong/petty to ask if they waive that fee and I have my brother “pay” the location? IE I give my brother the money etc since he lives in that county. I’m usually not like this, always the girl that orders the 8 dollar meal and never eats out fancy etc…but I want this place soooo much lol.
Why so much sales tax? Seems a bit much.

Why would you not have to pay a tax if you live in the county? Is this something he told you?
If it were me, I’d have my brother, uncle, friend, or second cousin twice removed from my great aunt Freda if it would save me $800.

Yeah I am confused about why you’d have to pay sales tax but your brother wouldn’t. That’s not really how sales tax works

McSacrament: The sales tax in Ohio ranges from 6.5% to 8%, so there really isn’t that much difference between counties.
On a $5000 venue bill the tax would range from $325 to $400.

Oh, okay. Thanks! I for some reason thought the tax was because I didn’t live in that county etc. So, yeah not going to make much of a difference.

The additional cost doesn’t seem odd to me. Where I live, many places have extra fees if you live out of the municipality. These places are usually partially funded by the city/county/etc., so people who live outside the area haven’t paid taxes to support them.
That said McSacrament, $800 does seem like a lot, and I would consider having a resident of the county pay on my behalf. Just make sure to check whether or not your brother’s name would be on all of the venue paperwork. That could make it difficult for you to deal with them, and it could make your brother liable if something were to go wrong.
ETA: There were responses while I was typing. If it really is a sales tax that anyone would have to pay, my point is moot.
