Love the personal touch! We thought about having salt and pepper shakers as our cake topper, but nixed the idea when everyone we suggested thought we were doing it because he is black and I am white. Whoops.
I'm doing a salt covenant in my wedding as well, it represents LOYALTY

I'm a wedding officiant, but when it came to put together my wedding ceremony... neither my fiance nor I wanted to include any extra rituals in there (weird, right?).
We met with our officiant a few weeks ago, and she suggested a wine ceremony, which we weren't sold on... but I started thinking, and liked the idea of doing SOMETHING other than standing there!
So we've decided to do a salt & pepper unity ceremony! We're going to get some smoked salt (which will be black/grey) and whole green peppercorns, and do a variation of the sand ceremony, where I'll pour the pepper and he'll pour the salt into the central vessel. We've got some action going on, it's something that really represents us (down to the fact that I'm pouring the pepper and he's got the salt), and it's something we can display/keep in our kitchen in the future!
I read about someone doing this on another board, but have never seen it in an actual ceremony. I'm glad that we're thinking a bit out of the box, and were able to find something that feels so much like "us" to include!
