my destination wedding will be in orlando and everytime i travel into town for planning related business, we look for places with awesome military rates. ive been meaning to try a stay at the Shades of Green disney world resort - which i hear caters exclusively to military members - but most of the time, we travel with our puppy and they aren't pet friendly. also, a lot of the time, their rates didnt beat other equally impressive hotels.
we've discovered the Doubletree Resort Orlando (pet friendly). It's conveniently located next to seaworld and seaworld's aquatica waterpark, down the road from the huge convention center, and close to other major attractions.
this hotel participates in a "salute to heroes" program offering military and even law enforcement & firefighters 50% off their lowest rates!! i dont know about you but that kind of discount in the hotel world is sort of unheard of!! after looking into it more, i found that this program exists in select hotels in many cities - one that just might be in your area:

check with the specific hotels before you book to see if they still honor the discounted rate ... the Doubletree Resort in Orlando originally had this offer expire on dec 31 2009 but have extended it through the end of march 2010.
since finding this, ive gotten rooms in orlando for $45/night, downtown miami for $60 (during superbowl weekend!), san diego for $40, atlanta for $50, and washington dc for $45. those prices are just UN-FREAKIN-BEATABLE! especially considering the quality of these hotels. im not guarenteeing that theyll always be that low though ... alot depends on how early you book, season, etc.
it was just too awesome of a find to keep to myself!
