I would send them as a courtesy invitation. If you don't send them, it's at a risk (however minimal) that they might feel like they are being snubbed. Sending the invitations would avoid any sort of drama or hurt feelings.
If you guys are set on the date, I'd definitely still send them. I know my sister in CA won't be able to make it to my shower or bachelorette party, but she's still getting an invite to know that I wish she could come.

Okay, so some of you might remember my last post a couple of weeks ago(Do I have the right to be upset?) because my very close friend's daughter chose the same date to get married as my son and FDIL who announced their date a year ago. The girl sent out Facebook STDs to all our mutual friends (and ME) as soon as she chose the date. Anyway, now my FDIL is sending out her STD magnets this week with their engagement photos and wedding website on them. She called me this morning and asked me if she should send her STDs to my friend whose daughter will be getting married the same day (and a few of their relatives who were also already on our list). Obviously they won't come, but do we send them anyway or just send a "courtesy" invitation to let them know they still are important to us? I doubt this situation is in the ettiquette books!!!
