If you’ve read my recent posts, I’ve been obsessing over this ring for weeks now. Well. My dreams were crushed this morning when my investigation skills took over. The local jewelry store told us wrong. I thought the setting I wanted was cheaper than what it really is. I found the designer website and prices and I was crushed. The diamond setting was $4,000+ without a moissy center stone!!! Oooooverbudget :(( so I was pretty pissed the jewelry store had told us wrong after talking to them twice about this ring. So I started looking thru moissaniteco.com for something else (and said forget that jewelry store all together) and found the SAME RING!!!!!! In our budget!!!!! my cranky pants came off and now Im doing a happy dance. F U, local jewelry store! So here’s some pics to compare.
Three different sets of pics. The diamond setting is the first of each different pics, Moissanite Co setting is the second pic of the same pictures. The diamond setting without a center stone is $4,000+ and the wedding band is $1,500+. The Moissanite WEDDING SET is $1590 or just the ering is $1140

@KJA00: I think it is a matter of personal preference and also your FI’s budget for an engagement ring and the wedding ring. $4500 is pretty steep for a setting, I know my FI spent about $2500 on my setting and I thought that was steep in terms of pricing. I think moissanites seem just as pretty as diamonds and you can always upgrade down the line. Honestly I had never heard of moissanite until I joined wedding bee, what a great alternative to diamonds for people who don’t like the diamond industry practice or don’t have the budget for it. I say go with the moissanite wedding set since it may keep you under budget or within budget and spend more money on the honeymoon and planning your honeymoon! I can’t tell the difference between the original ring and the moissy ring. And I am not a fan of jewelry stores anyway. LOL

@KJA00: Go with the moissy and use the money saved to go on an awesome trip!!

Wow, looks like a great alternative if you didn’t want or could afford the diamond one! The setting looks identical.

Local jewelers are terrible- the mark up is generally insane! You will definitely find more competitive pricing online or even on eBay! Like a pp said, $4500 is just crazy for a semi-mount, I mean it depends on what the tcw was in diamonds, but, yeah, that’s steep!

if i could have a do-over i would have gone with a moissy, but that is because i dont like the diamond industry.

Haha, we’re looking at my getting the matching band for my wedding set. I went into Kay to look at something similar in person. $1900 with diamonds. Or for something with moissanite, it’ll be about $600.
Gee, tough decision, especially when my e-ring is moissy! NOT!

You should actually be able to find, or have custom made, a diamond setting like that in the $1-2k price range. The $4000 one is very much overpriced. What are the carat weights and quality specs of the melee?
That said, if you are using moissanite for the center, it’s best to avoid a diamond setting anyway, as they would result in a navy-sock black-shoe type clash.

Without the center stone, the carat weight is 1 1/6 for the diamond setting and 1.4 for the moissy setting. I wanted a Moissanite after a lot researching. I preferred an all Moissanite setting but I saw the diamond one and fell in love. I didn’t even think about trying to find the Moissanite one. I just got so caught up Because I had never seen a ring like that.
before I discovered Moissanite, I was so shocked how expensive diamonds are. I just couldn’t wrap my head around it. My SO gave me a budget but I still didn’t want him to spend that much on a ring when we have other things we could use that money for. im so grateful for this site or else I wouldn’t have ever figured out what Moissanite was.

wow that’s amazing!
i would go for moissanite all the way. it is beautiful. i have a diamond and my mom has a moissy and hers is so clear and sparkley, i want a moissanite too one day, even though i love my ring.

My cranky pants came off, haaaa, lol. Glad you found a replacement!!!

was the $4000 setting in platinum? Maybe they have a white gold option that is less expensive.

Hooray for you and your soon to be fiance’s wallet, lol! Get the ring in moissanite, I’d recommend upgrading the center stone to either a FB or Amora, and wear it happily and proudly for the rest of your life! Moissanite is hard enough that it will last forever (yes, it can be damaged like all other stones, but the likelyhood is so tiny), so the great thing is that you don’t have to switch stones later on (unless, of course, you just want to!). 🙂
I really like that halo setting, and am so happy you found a much more reasonably priced version.

WOW! I agree with PP! I had never heard of moissy rings until I joined weddingbee POST-engagement. I wish I would have seen it earlier because I would have totally gotten one!
I think the design of the ring is really cool and unique! NO one even asks if they are diamonds or not & etc… everyone is just happy for you and loves sparkly things! hehe
Congrats on finding a fab deal!

Wow, that is really stunning. I am getting myself a Mossy too! I went to blue nile and the diamond setting I wanted was the same price as the whole 1.25ctw Mossy sha-bang. Then I created a blue nile diamond ring w/ a middle of the road spec center stone = $7500. The Mossy set (including band) $1550. Plus now I am going to a 1.5ctw, still less than the damn setting only.
