Hi Bees! I fell in love with a sample gown last summer! It was a size 10 and fit me perfectly, and my mom and grandmother said I should ask the store if I could just buy that one since it needed *no* alterations. I wasn’t too fond of that idea becuase I figured beading could be loose or there could be tears in the dress I didn’t notice. Anyways, I ordered the sample size in my own dress from the designer and waited 9.5 months for it to come in!
When it did, I was shocked to see how big it was on me. Considering I haven’t lost any weight, I had no idea what was going on. The shop measured my dress that came in to the sample size and it was an inch bigger in the chest, waist and hips! An inch is almost a full size! The store said their seamstresses do amazing work and could guarantee the same fit from the sample on the new dress. However, it was more than just the sizes. The new dress actually had a different shaped top. It was still a sweetheart neckline but the cups were just bigger and not as round, a bit of a longer shape to them that really wasn’t flattering. The store said they could fix that too, but it seemed like a lot of alterations.
They gave me the choice to have the new dress altered or they could call the designer to see if they could ship a new dress and pay better attention to sizing and their design. I went with that option and the designer said they would make me a new one true to size since it was their error. I am just nervous because the first dress took 9.5 months to come in and they said they could do this one in 2.5. If it comes in when they say it will come in, it will only be 3 weeks before my wedding!
Basically, does anyone have any amazing stories of alterations? My dress is a zipper back and the sample dress gave me an incredible shape. The new dress is too big and I’m afriad with a zipper they just won’t be able to get it perfectly so that it holds me in giving me a tiny waist but I can still breathe. I just miss that sample dress look.
