- Wedding: August 2013
I bought a bunch of flowers for my wedding from Sam’s Club (note: I’m not a member, but my mom is, so I used her membership to buy) and thought a little review might be helpful to those thinking about it. I got married this past Saturday, and my flowers arrived on the Thursday before.
Overall I think I saved a lot of money. I spent just over $600 for all my flowers, and I got a LOT of flowers.
I bought their Hot Pink, Green, and Orange collection – 17 pieces for just over $300. http://www.samsclub.com/sams/wedding-collection-hot-pink-green-orange-17-pc/prod4400467.ip?navAction=push
I got my bridal bouquet, 4 bridesmaid bouquets, 4 corsages, 6 boutoneers, a toss bouquet, and a box of petals. It even came with a very nice clipper to remove the stuff from the box and to cut the stems with, as well as flower food packets and instructions. I was very happy with these!!!
They arrived on time and gorgeous. No damage whatsoever. THe bouquets were packed with the stems in wet sponges and wrapped in plastic, so the flowers were well hydrated. And they really held up – my bouquet still looks decent today, although some of the roses are wilting a bit finally.
Here are some pics:
The boxes are here! The big box is the wedding collection. Then I had a box of roses, and two boxes of mixed bulk bouquets.
The Wedding collection box opened:
And bouquets unpacked and put into my own vases:
The next thing I had ordered was bulk roses, 125 stems in white and in green. http://www.samsclub.com/sams/roses-green-white-125-stems/197126.ip?navAction=push
The whole 125 stems were in one of the long boxes pictured above. Everything was packed very tight. The roses did seem to be a little flattened from the packaging, but they mostly seemed to recover well. Especially the white ones. The green ones never got really full. If I was to re-order I might just go with white and skip the green. The roses came with instructions and lots of flower food.
They had thorns, so got a bit poked dealing with them, but otherwise things went OK. The stems are nice and straight and long, although not all the same length, because they are staggered a bit in the packaging, so about 3 inches difference between the longest and shortest stems.
The roses held up very well. Especially the white ones. A day or two after the wedding, the green ones did show browing on the petals.
Here’s a pic that shows some of the roses. I wish I had some better ones. Hopefully my photographer got some shots of the flowers:
Another thing I ordered was a set of mixed bouquets entitled “Summer Splash”. I basically wanted a bunch of bright colored flowers and some Gerbera daisies. http://www.samsclub.com/sams/summer-splash-mixed-bouquet-10-pk/203783.ip?navAction=push
And also this set of mixed bouquets – “Dazzling Daisies” for more color and more gerberas: http://www.samsclub.com/sams/dazzling-daisies-mixed-bouquet-10-pk/prod1541355.ip?navAction=push
These two packs of flowers came from Colombia. They were nice, but they might have been my one slight disappointment in the flowers. The colors were not as bright as the pictures. The pink Gerbers were more of barbie pink than a hot pink. The snap dragons weren’t that nice and didn’t really open. Even the carnations didn’t seem to open many of the buds. The Alstromeria looked terrible on arrival and never really perked up upon rehydrating. The green button mums were not very nice ones – lots of smaller and dried out buds that didn’t open. In an overall sense, the bouquets were just a little blah and not as vibrant as the photos showed.
I was able to make some nice flower arrangements with them, however. I did have a lot let over – some of them the not-as-nice-as-expected ones, but also some that I just didn’t have room to use!
I did my own arrangements of flowers in chemistry glassware as part of our chemistry theme for centerpieces. I also did three big arrangements for the gift table and on either side of the altar.
Two of the large arrangements on the left, and boxes of the table centerpieces going toward the right.
I put together the arrangements and centerpieces on Friday, after the flowers had spent Thursday rehydrating. Also, on Saturday morning I re-cut my gerbera daisies (the ones in the glassware, not in the arrangements) just to make sure they held up, and they did hold up very well.
There was one hitch in my Sam’s Club experience.
My flowers shipped on Tuesday to arrive on Thursday. I got a notice Tuesday evening of the shipping. However, it showed only the roses and the two mixed bouquet packages shipped. The wedding collection showed still pending!!!
I phoned them Wednesday morning and the guy I talked to said it looked like it had not shipped but would ship out that day and would still arrive on Thursday.
I received no shipping notice that day either and on Thursday they still showed not shipped. I was in a panic! I was really counting on those bouquets! I phoned again and they said they would check and phone me back.
Nobody ever phoned back!
Luckily the wedding collection did arrive with the other flowers and so all was well. I received a shipping notice on it late on Thursday! I was so glad to get them, but also it was very stressful waiting and wondering! And I have to think the first guy I talked to didn’t really bother to check anything but just got me off the phone by saying it would ship that day.
Also, it ended up being a bit more work than I had thought. Be sure to plan enough time and help! And a place that you don’t need to worry about getting wet and dirty with flower petals, leaves, etc. Buckets are a big necessity, and I also used some large plastic totes.
Hopefully I’ve covered everything that people would find useful!
