We really love La Valencia hotel in La Jolla and are close to booking it, however if anyone has had their wedding there I would love to hear your thoughts on it. We looked at the room near the courtyard for the reception with the outdoor veranda for cocktail hour. Did anyone feel that 10 pm was too early to end the reception? If so, did you go continue the party elsewhere and where since I am not too familiar with La Jolla. Any and all input is appreciated! Or, if you have other suggestions for similar venues with a slightler cheaper pricetag. We are open to location. Thanks!!

My friend got married at la Valancia a few years ago. I know it wasn’t a cheap venue and it came out to about $250 per head. She too had her cocktail hour on the veranda and the ceremony was on a grassy area overlooking the ocean. Honestly, it was a gorgeous venue and since you’re going to have the party until 10pm, there’s going to be just a few options for you to do afterwards. I was a bridesmaid in her wedding and she had an evening wedding so a lot of the places were closed by the time the wedding was over. All I recall was that she had a top shelf open bar and I got pretty blitzed. Her husband had to kick us out of their wedding night suite! Hahah! There were drunk bridesmaids everywhere…I don’t even recall eating dinner that night.
I did, however, work in La Jolla for about five years in a restaurant called The Spot (corner of Girard and Prospect) and that place is open until 2 AM. It’s not the fanciest establishment, but hey the bar is open. You could also go to places like George’s, Azul, Jose’s, Alfonzo’s or Rappungi’s. The bar at La V is also kinda cool- it’s all red inside And make killer martinis!
Just prepare for the weather to be a little overcast if you plan on having it in La Jolla since I have heard it described as the “tit” of San Diego and is farther west into the ocean so it tends to be cloudy often.
