We’re headed off to our honeymoon next week, and have almost 2 full days in San Juan/Old San Juan, and are looking for recommendations on places to do, things to see, and where to eat/drink? We’ll be doing the whole rainforest and beach thing during other parts of our trip, and are just looking for things to do in the city. Any ideas? 🙂

@grass:I can’t say I have specific things for you to do or eat, but I have been to Old San Juan 3 times and LOVE it there! Where are you staying? I have always stayed at the caribe hilton and traveled to other hotels to gamble.

There is an old fort, El Morro, which overlooks the water. Great for pictures!
The Bacardi factory (Casa Bacardi) isn’t too far from San Juan.
When we went, we loved just walking around Old San Juan, and stopping in all of the little stores run by local artisans.

The Don Q rum museum was fun http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/casa-don-q/
There’s lots of farmers markets that sell some tasty snacks but they change from place to place so you can probably find one just by googling what day of the week you’ll be there.
Mainly we just wandered around Old San Juan and ran into stuff, lots of historical stuff there and everyone was super friendly.
Old San Juan was probably one of the more friendly places I’ve been. Even when we went to fill up with gas there was a guy who looked like a beggar outside but just wanted us to bring him an espresso….random request but sure.
I’m not sure if you speak spanish but Puerto Rican spanish is rather hard to understand, there’s a ton of colloquialisms and dropped/swallowed portions of words….like half the words/phrases are some condensed form so if you might want to read up a bit on that, we were quite surprised. However, I didn’t meet anyone who couldn’t at least converse a little in English though almost everyone was fairly fluent.
