My suggestion is to buy a sand container that has its own lid. Then make sure you fill it with sand all the way to the top. If you don’t want to fill it all the way, because you want to add a little sand every year to it on your anniversary. Then the option I would suggest is to put in the amount of sand that you want for the ceremony. Next place clear plastic wrap on top of the sand to pack it down/seal it. Next place something like a firm but soft item like a ball of socks in the container and place the lib back on. That should keep it from shifting.

Were flying back from vegas too but were using a fillable hourglass http://heirloomhourglass.com/ that has a lid and the shaking wont matter too much and I’m packing it in a carry on in a stryofoam container. I would definatly put it in ur carry on.
