Several of my friends have done the Sandals thing (Bahamas – Jamaica – Antigua – St Lucia) … even have a GF who got married at one of their resorts in Jamaica.

And ALL of those couples would go back in an instant !!

Can’t speak to Couples… don’t honestly know any one who’s used them.

    Hope this helps (some),

    @subola:  Here is a couple of ideas…

1- Use the SEARCH function here on WBee to see if you can find past topics for either Sandals or Couples… or even more specifically any of their resorts by name… that you you might be interested in (I’m guessing that somewhere in the history of “the Hive” that there is a topic where a Bride has done sort of a Blog on her Honeymoon… maybe even with pics)

2- Check out TripAdvisor… they would most definitely have Reviews for any resort you might be interested in… and based on the fact that the clientelle at these places is mainly couples on vacation (Honeymoon – Anniversaries etc) you’d get a good idea of what the resort has to offer / is like from that perspective.

    Hope this helps,

+1 on researching potential vacation spots on Trip Advisor. It’s never led me astray.

One of my co-workers used to be in the travel industry and has nothing good to say about Sandals. Says he’d never go back, particularly to their Jamaican properties. Overrated and poorly maintained. I don’t know his opinion on Couples resorts.

Couples all the way. we are going to couples swept away in July on our honeymoon. I did soooooo much research debating this question. Couples looks nicer, trip adviser opinions seem to favor Couples over Sandals, Couples gives you for free (well included) things like butler service that you have to pay extra for at Sandals, Couples is newer I believe and therefore nicer, Couples has better excursions and my travel agent hands down recommended Couples over Sandals to us (she has been to both). Hope this helps!

We went to Sandals Whitehouse on our honeymoon last year. We are going back to Sandals Grande Riviera this summer! Each time you go back to Sandals, you get more money off and they give you free gifts! I’m soo excited to go back and get treated like royalty!

I worked the Customer Service desk (read: complaint desk!) for a large wholesale travel agency for 6 years. I would TOTALLY recommend Couples over Sandals. Couples is pretty much the exact same thing, but less expensive. Plus, in the last two years I recieved more and more complints about Sandals and had a harder and harder time getting them to resolve the issues. Couples, on the otherhand, never stopped working with me to make sure any issues were resolved promptly.

I would suggest booking through a travel agent. It’s the same cost (if they quote higher, get them to pricematch! Most will.) and if something goes wrong you’ll have someone to do your fighting for you! I used to tell people “Go have a drink by the pool! I’ll call you when they’ve fixed your room.” and then make the hotel resolve whatever it was and comp them an upgraded dinner or spa service.

I love Couples resorts.  I’ve only been to Couples Tower Isle though (We be starting our second trip there in two years on the 9th!).  I really like Couples because they don’t stick people in different “classes” of service depending upon what they paid/what kind of room they got.  Couples also includes some excursions in the price as well!

@subola:  We’re going to Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica. A little off the beaten path but people RAVE about this place.

Ladies, any idea if either of these resorts allow you to bring in outside photogs?

If you’ve never been to Jamaica a little info you may find useful in deciding which resort to pick is that Ocho Rios beaches are generally known to be rougher then the Negril side of the island.

There is also Couples Negril and Couples Swept away over in Negril.   I’ve heard amazing things about Tower Isle and San Souci though, but some people prefer a calmer beach so i thought i’d mention that aspect.

In saying that….. i would highly recommend Couples over Sandals.  We stay at Couples Negril.

@thegreeneyedkri:  I heard excursions were included. That sounds like a great deal. I assume there’s some kind of price maximum though?
