Sandals resorts?

My friend only stays at all-inclusive resorts and she wasn’t thrilled with Sandals. She went to the one in Antigua for her honeymoon and while she loved the location, she said the service at Sandals wasn’t that great. Also, I doubt you’ll be able to get 6 nights at Sandals for $5,000. They’re very expensive. Where are you looking to go for your honeymoon? Does that $5,000 include airfare?

FutureFix:  we had our weddingmoon at sandals negril.  It was about 5700 for the room with butler service.  We absolutely LOVED it.  We had a personal cellphone to reach our butler 24h a day.  We never waited at restaurants, your butler escorts you from your room to a beautifully decorated table.  They also will reserve beach chairs every morning with a cooler of your favorite beverages.  Seriously. I wanted to take our 2 butlers home they were so amazing!  The resort itself was gorgeous and well manicured.  It isn’t one of their “party” resorts so it’s nice and quiet.  They have activities nightly and we often went to the dance parties on the beach.  It is expensive and couples we talked to did not get the same level of service or room accomodation as we did and were not as thrilled.  I was told this about Sandals so we ended up with the highest room category.

I think you should look at trip advisor for reviews on all the places you might be looking into.  Secrets resorts are supposed to be really nice and couples resorts too.

FutureFix:  FI and I have also done quite a few all inclusive resorts, and weren’t thrilled with Sandals.

We stayed at Sandals La Toc, and spent about $5000. We found that the room was pretty old and falling apart (shower leaked all over the floor), it was too loud to sleep when we went to bed at night, and the food and drinks were pretty ‘meh.’

I’d look up TripAdvisor reviews — from what I’ve read some of their newer properties are pretty nice.

If you’re looking for All inclusive, I’d also check out Excellence Playa Mujeres (Mexico), Westin Playa Conchal (Costa Rica). Or just stick to the newer Sandals hotels, if that’s what your sold on.

I’ve done a bunch of all inclusives and personally, wasn’t really that happy with Sandals. I stayed for 7 nights at the one in Antigua. I hated the tier system (if you weren’t in the higher tier rooms, you got shitty service), hated making dinner reservations, etc. I’ve had fantastic experience at Secrets and Excellence resorts. I’d recommend Secrets Maroma Beach for a honeymoon, I’ve been there on a vacation but most of the people were on their honeymoon. It was a gorgeous location and the service was beyond amazing. Excellence Playa Mujeres is really good too.

FutureFix:  We took a mini vacation at Sandals Negril for a good friends wedding. We had a great time! The food was good, the rooms were nice and clean, the view was awesome, and it was relatively quiet.

I have never been to a Sandals resort, but FI and I just got back from Paradisus Playa Del Carmen La Perla (another all inclusive resort) 2 weeks ago.  I can’t recommend this place highly enough!  We got the luxury jr suite for 5 nights, but upgraded to a Royal Service swim up suite for the final night just to try it out.  We received exceptional service from everyone the whole trip and all the rooms were beautiful, but royal service was definitely the way go!  We wish we had known beforehand so we could have booked royal service the whole time.  Check them out on trip advisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g150812-d2064902-Reviews-Paradisus_Playa_del_Carmen_La_Perla-Playa_del_Carmen_Yucatan_Peninsula.html

My only complaint was the timeshare type presentation that we agreed to go to in exchange for 1/2 price massages and $100 credit toward anything on the resort.  I would suggest to skip it.  Otherwise, this place was outstanding.

I’ve never been to any of the other Sandals resorts, and the one I’m going to recommend was not marketed under the Sandals brand when my DH and I honeymooned there. However, what is now known as Sandals Royal Plantation in Ocho Rios, Jamaica was a small, luxurious boutique resort with stunning, ocean-front suites; top-notch service; and fabulous food.  You can see it here:

We did a 10 day honeymoon at Sandals Halycon Beach and it was SPECTACULAR. Halcyon Beach is on St Lucia and there are 2 other Sandals on the island (La Toc and Grande) that you can catch a shuttle to once every hour & a half or so. The Grande and the La Toc were much larger and more lively while Halcyon was the smallest of the 3. We spent about $7000 on the entire honeymoon (we upgraded to one of the walkout rooms on the beach), including flights and the 4 excursions we did. Food was decent, alcohol was ever-flowing and the water was incredibly warm in the pool and ocean. I’d go back in a heartbeat.

We did 6 nights in Jamaica (Royal Caribean) in an ocean view Club level room for $4000 with airfare 1.5 years ago. It was amazing. I don’t think we will ever do a non-sandals couples vacation again. Service and food, which I was concerned could be lacking, were beyond anything I could have imagined.

We went to grande riviera in jamaica,  and it was AMAZING.  I recommend it.   There are 14 restaurants to choose from,  and all have great food.   Tons of activities,  and its beautiful.  We had such a fantastic time.

I know that for your honeymoon you are not necesarrily looking for a “deal” but I had great luck with CheapCarribean.com. I got an all inclusive in Mexico that we were THRILLED with for 6 nights, including airfare, for a TOTAL of $1700 (that is all food, drinks, hotel, airfare for 2 people). It was the Occidental Grand Xcaret. We didn’t get any fancy upgrades or anything, but it was really great and beyond affordable. I know I’ve heard some CheapCarribean horror stories, but if you cross check what you find on there with TripAdvisor you should be good to go. If your budget for 6 nights is $5000, the world will be your oyster on that site.

Mrs_G_To_Be:  We went to Grande Riviera last October for our honeymoon.  The staff was SO friendly and welcoming.  We went with a bulter service room & our butlers were fantastic!  The resort is massive, so having a personal pick up service was pretty helpful.  We were there for 10 days.  My favorite meals were dinner at Neptune’s and at Valentino’s.  We really enjoyed the morning breakfast at the Manor.  Dinner at Kimono’s was a lot of fun!  If you can do that earlier in your trip, try to do so, since you’ll probably ended up making friends at your table.  Oh and we also did a private dinner on the beach one night.  It costs extra, but was really romantic and great food.

Our hands down favorite excursion was the Duns River Falls! We did the boat/snorkle trip there & it was SO much fun!  We also really enjoyed the ATV tour.

Pools days were pretty much our favorite thing to do with the swim up bars and blended drinks.  My husband loved the wood fired pizza places for lunch too.  Our buttler even delivered one to us when we requested one day.
