I’ve been looking at Sandals, personally, I think they are expensive, over priced and over-rated. We are looking at more private, all-inclusive resorts.  Good luck!

@steph99ucfkd:  I’ve never been to a Sandals resort but we heard great things about the Secrets resorts and researched to find the best one. It was determined that Secrets Maroma in Riviera Maya was hands down the best one, so we went with that. It did not disappoint! Now I worried about going to others cause we set the bar so high! I know you didn’t mention Mexico but the beach, pools, bars, restaurants, entertainment, activities, and service were truly indescribable! I’m sure other Secrets resorts are great too.

We also considered Secrets Royal Beach in Punta Cana.

DH and I stayed at Secrets Wild Orchid in Montego Bay Jamaica for our honeymoon. It was very pricey but it was absolutely AMAZING.

@steph99ucfkd:  Read the reviews on each for Trip Advisor.  We looked at Sandals St. Lucia (any of the 3) and were really surprised to see so much of a higher % of negative reviews vs. Secrets.  We decided to go with Secrets also because of the value – they wanted $3k more (almost double the price) for the same nights in the same type of room.

Also, my mom is a travel agent who has been to most of the resorts and says that Sandals are pretty dated and don’t offer anything that would make them have prices that high.  They just spend more $$ on advertising than the others…

@steph99ucfkd:  We’re staying at Sandals in Antigua for our wedding. I know there’s a lot of mixed reviews, but I found that with any resorts we looked at in Antigua, specifically. One of my friends just got back from her honeymoon at the Sandals St Lucia and LOVED it.

I will comment on any board for Secrets!!  My husband and I got married at Secrets Wild Orchid and then stayed the rest of the week for our honeymoon!  It was amazing! Best time of our lives – so far! I will add that if you chose Secrets Wild Orchid – the swim out suites were not so private.  We did not stay in one, but visiting the pool on the preferred side – you can see everything – there was no privacy.

Congrats to you on your upcoming wedding!

DH and I went to Sandals Royal Bahamian for our honeymoon and loved it.  However, I am not loyal to only Sandals and would be willing to try different all inclusives.  I will say though that the new Sandals opening up in Grenada in December looks amazing!

@JsDragonfly:  Oh!  FI and I are marrying there – so happy to hear you loved it!  Anything we should put on our “must do” lists?  Which restaurant was your favorite? We’re so excited! 🙂

@steph99ucfkd:  I actually haven’t been to a Sandals or Secrets resort, but we went to an Excellence resort for our honeymoon and it was AMAZING. I know they have one in the Dominican Republic 🙂 Check out their reviews! The DR is absolutely beautiful!

@mrs_pudding_pop:  You will have a great time!  DH and I spent every moment we could on the private island.  It was so incredibly relaxing and by far our favorite part of that particular resort.  In my opinion, the beach on the private island was way better than the one at the main resort.

We didn’t do any of the excursions, so I can’t offer any advice on those.

While we liked all the restaurants, Baccarat & Gordon’s stood out to us.  The food at Baccarat was wonderful and the ambiance/romantic feel of Gordon’s on the Pier was just fantastic.  Also, the breakfast roomservice menu was awesome!  I loved getting french toast delivered to me…total pampering!

We had a butler level room back in the garden and loved it.  There are more secluded pools back there, so check them out!  One time, we had a whole pool to ourselves for about 2 hours.

If you want to venture off the resort, definitely utilize the #10 bus.  It’s $1.25/pp/way.  We used the heck out of that bus to get us back and forth from downtown.

Looking back, what I wish I had done more of was:

    *  Relaxing down at the ocean at night.  They have couches around firepits that were so lovely, but we only used them on our last night 🙁

    *  Gone on a snorkel excursion.  I am terrified of the water, but DH would have thoroughly enjoyed this.

    *  Spent even more time on the private island…it really is wonderful.

    *  Spent less time going back and forth to downtown and just relax and enjoy the resort.

Please feel free to ask more questions.  I could talk about it all day long! 🙂
