@LabDarling:  We stayed at Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica for our honeymoon and it was amazing! I don’t anything about Secrets, but Sandals is couples only, no children. Which for a honeymoon is VERY nice!  Sandals really take care of their guests.

Personally I find Sandals too expensive, and Secrets didn’t appeal to us. We prefer the Couples resorts. Totally a personal preference though 🙂

@LabDarling:  Are you set on these two? Because we looked at Montego Bay, but were told by everyone we talked to that the beaches in Negril were much better.

@LabDarling:  We are getting a personal car to drive us, not a bus. Also, we are staying for 2 weeks so an hour for a better resort (in my mind) is well worth it. They even include excursions! The cost savings also make it worth it 🙂

@QueenOfSerendip:  +1. Negril has 7 Mile Beach, one of the best in the world. My friend is from Jamaica and she highly recommended it. That beach is the reason why we are going 🙂

@LabDarling:  Fair enough. For what it’s worth (even though I haven’t stayed at either), I’ve heard great things about Secrets resorts. And Sandals, not as much. I’ve heard it’s wayyyy too pricy for what you get. I would go Secrets!

@LabDarling:  We are getting married at Secrets St. James in Montego Bay!

This is the 2nd Secrets resort we will be staying at and we couldn’t be more excited. Our first experience with Secrets was in Cancun last year. We were blown away. I’m very picky and can basically find anything to complain about and I didn’t find one issue. Seriously!

We did the Preferred Club in Cancun and were spoiled. If you choose Secrets, I do suggest that, despite what others might say. We had our own pool and there are perks that made a difference to us. I’ve read reviews that say non PC members can access the goods, but we didn’t find that at all. There was at least 2 staff members patrolling the private areas to make certain. It just felt more exclusive to us and we really liked it! I also know a couple that is doing their HM at Secrets Wild Orchid, which I’m sure you know, they share the same restaurants, etc.

We did not choose Sandals because it seemed too hokey/cheezy to me, along with being out of this world expensive for what we got. None of their resorts impressed us enough to feel we had to book. We did not choose Couples for a few reasons. The drive, I kept reading about was a pain. I am not a huge TV watcher but I didn’t like that they didn’t have them in the room…I wanted FI to be comfortable too and hey, he might like to watch a show with a beer while I get ready or something. I also did extensive research on the rooms and I repeatedly read, over and over, two things: they were loud and/or while nice, they were not luxury. However, the people that went said they would return. So I think it’s all about expectations. Couples is very couple oriented (duh…the name lol) but we like that at Secrets they combine luxury with the option to be as romantic or as social as you like.

All Secrets properties are 18 and up. The family friendly ones are Dreams, which we do plan on taking FI’s son to on a family vacation!

@LabDarling:  I stayed at Secrets Montego bay last summer and loved it. There is lots of stuff to do that comes with your package– snokeling, kayaking, wind surfing. They offer a dinner on the beach, which was AMAZING and you can get professional photos done before the dinner. Loved the photos, and then they have a surprise in your room afterwards. We stayed in the St. James side, and in talking with other couples, there wasn’t a difference in the packages really. The restaurants are good, not excellent, but I think that comes with many all-inclusive resorts. If food is really important to you, then I’d maybe look at Sandals (never stayed there). Whichever side you choose to stay on, you still get all of the same perks as the preferred guests. The spa is also AMAZING there. Every day they have a jerk chicken cart that comes around and it was literally the best chicken I’ve ever eaten. You can book excursions when you get there and the drivers are downstairs every morning to take you where ever you’d like to go. No matter where you go in Jamaica…bring bug spray!! The mosquitoes are crazy there.

Feel free to ask anything else! 🙂
