Has anyone been to Santorini? My fiance and I are getting married this upcoming May and we’re thinking about going there for our honeymoon. I’ve done lots of research that says the weather should be in the mid-low 70’s during the day, but just wondering if anyone has any personal experience with spring travel to Greece. We’re beach people and loooove the sun! I’m just a little worried we’d be disappointed it wasn’t warmer.
Thanks for the help in advance!

@NeelyBride: I’ve been to Santorini in May, and I’m sorry to say that it rained the entire time–like, a week straight. However, everyone there said that that’s extremely unusual for that time of year. A couple friend of ours also went there this year in early summer–maybe late May, early June–and said they didn’t see a single cloud the whole time. I would say you’re most likely safe, unless you get some real bad luck, which could happen anywhere.

@NeelyBride: The weather should be fine – however it will be chilly to go swimming. The waters there don’t get warm really, which is fine, but the air might be too crips in May so you might not have that summer sun that heats you up after you get out of the cold water.
Not to say that it won’t still be beautiful though.

Check out Weather Underground’s Travel Planner (http://www.wunderground.com/travelplanner/index.asp) to see what the weather has historically been in Santorini during your trip.
I’ve been there in early June, and weather was really nice then.
Santorini is not really a beach destination, though. If you stay in Fira or Oia, you need transportation to go to the beach.

Santorini is absolutely beautiful. The nicer places to stay are on the opposite side of the island from the beaches. If you have a few days to stay, I would recommend staying a few days on Mykonos as well.
