I'm letting my dad choose, so it will be a suprise for me on that day. My FH will pass the song onto the DJ for me, so I don;t even have to see it then :-)
If we would have had the Father Daughter dance, I was thinking of using Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle, Daddy's Girl by Red Sevine, or Daddy's Hands by Holly Dunn. They are all really great songs.
There is also a new country song called "Stealing Cinderella" by Chuck Wicks that would the perfect Father-Daughter dance song. It talks about a guy asking for his girlfriend's hand, and the relationship she has with her dad.
The Heartland song would also be perfect tho!!!
Hope those suggestions help! I also was able to locate some websites just by typing Father Daughter Dance songs into my google bar!
I used "Daddy's Hands". But that is because I had dreamed of dancing with my dad to that song at my wedding ever since I first heard it at a wedding as a little girl.
"I Loved Her First" would be perfect. It would have been my other choice though!
I went to a wedding and they danced to Tim McGraw's My Little Girl...I bawled my eyes out and didn't even know them!!
My dad passed away 4 years ago - so I didn't have a father daughter dance - but I choose two first dance songs :) We first danced to It's Your Love as our traditional song - then we danced to I Loved Her First to honor my daddy :) I can't hear that song and not start bawling! I absolutely LOVE IT!
we did "somewhere over the rainbow" but the ukelele version. i loved it but my dad was like, why'd you pick this song? it makes ME cry!
I'm totally using "I Loved Her First" by Heartland. Daddy Lovebird already made me put it in his mp3 player so he could start getting used to the beat to perfect his dance moves~ hehe. Btw, does anyone have a good version of the song they could email me? The version I have isn't of great quality. lovebird[at]weddingbee[dot]com
we used Butterfly Kisses (which as you know, I hate because it is so GOD AWFUL LONG) and the band shortened it for us since my dad is handicapped. Well...he had to sit on his walker 1/2 way through the dance and he just twirled me with his arm...yeah...that was a tear jerker!! Not sure the same effect would happen if there wasn't an old, handicapped, dramatic man in the mix. :)
ooops... sorry. In My Life isn't very sappy. I misread the post.
What a Wonderful World is a good sappy one.
Actually, my dad and I just picked the song yesterday! It's called Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman (a Christian singer - but this would be appropriate for anyone). This Cinderella song is different than the one being played on country stations these days. In my humble opinion, it's even better. My FMIL emailed it to me b/c she thought of me when she heard it (I love all things that reference Disney). So far it's made her, me, both my parents, my fiance, my MOH, AND my wedding planner cry!
Here's the link to the song... http://www.stevencurtischapman.com/thismoment.htm
I loved the heartland song until I just went to 2 weddings and they both used it. Since its family, I can't really have the same one too! My problem is I need a father/daughter AND a stepfather/daughter song. How am I going to do this???
My favorite sappy father/daughter song is You Don't Have to Let Go by Jessica Simpson. I cry every time I hear it! It's such a beautiful song about a father's sacrifice and how he made her who she is today. ::tear::
Here's the link from you tube, I hope it works!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqyFTXPzIXM
My friend just got married and her Dad chose this song called "Give you Away". There wasn't a dry eye in the room... including all the other Dad's! Anyway, I got the artist's info so here's the link: www.myspace.com/chantalsoudant and the song is called "Give You Away". Anyway, just thought I'd pass it on.
We are going to do Frank Sinatra's "The Way You Look Tonight." Yeah, my dad is going to cry. Me too, probably.
Find your wings by Mark Harris is one I may use. He's another Christian artist. The song always gets me teared up. Here's the video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=knm492yxMfo
my dad surprised me with "you are so beautiful to me" and even I burst into tears at the lyrics 'you're everything I hoped for' (he actually had the band re-write the next part to say 'you're all I knew you'd be' (instead of the original 'you're everything I need')!!
Had he not wanted to surprise me, I was thinking about Paul Simon's "Father and Daughter" (' There could never be a father Who loved his daughter more than I love you' gets me every time!)
If you want one of the most beautiful and poignant father daughter songs that has NO CRINGE OR CHEESE (like butterfly kisses).
Check out Kendall Payne's song "daddy".
you should check out this site, there are a lot of ideas for father daughter songs

@JKL216 Thank you for this. My dad is very religous and I am not so much. I think Mark Harris' song would be a great moment for us. Thanks for the cry. :-)

In addition to Beccs post about non-sappy songs, anyone have some not-a-dry-eye-in-the-room songs? So far I've got "I loved her first" by heartland (if you haven't heard it, download it, like yesterday)
What are you dancing to with dear ol dad?
