I adore my dress. Love love love it. But I keep having bridesmaid dress regret (though we haven’t ordered them yet). I’d spent months in love with one dress (all the colors are stock photos, ours would be dark purple):
But when we went to the store to shop, my Maid/Matron of Honor and my mom fell in love with:
They said it was unique and pretty and Maid/Matron of Honor brought up that since my dress is lacy tulle, having the bridesmaids in chiffon or other flowy fabrics would look better because then they wouldn’t be all shiny when I’m not. But, as much as I want to, I just can’t love the second dress as much as the first. The first is way more expensive, too, which makes me want to pick the second because I know not all of my girls are that financially stable right now and most of them have to travel quite a long way. I started a page on Weddington Way to see what kinds of dresses the maids like and the second one isn’t one that they offer, but the first is. Already one bridesmaid has put it in our “showroom” and another has liked it. For reference, this is my dress:

@luluvohn: Honestly, if it were ME wearing the Bridesmaid or Best Man dress, I would be a bigger fan of the second dress. Although they are both beautiful, my reasons are as follows: a) I love the flowiness, b) Chiffon is very forgiving for a lot of people (satin is a bit tougher), and c) cost efficiency 🙂
I do not think Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses need to match a brides dress by any means, but the second one compliments yours better too!

@luluvohn: What about the 2nd dress do you not like? Is it because you’ve had this online affair with the 1st dress for so long? I think you and the BMs need to reach a compromise. If the 1st dress is over their budget already (think about the alterations, shoes, jewelry, hair, makeup, $$ for bridal shower and bachelorette party and lets not forget about travel to the rehearsal, Rehearsal Dinner AND the wedding!) you may want to think about it.

@luluvohn: I would personally prefer to wear the 2nd dress, and as the bride I would think about the price and probably go with the 2nd as well. It really isn’t that different from the first one, but I’m not a big fan of satin and the 2nd dress is something they could wear again.

love your gown! i too prefer the 2nd dress…i wore organza and my girls were in chiffon…i like the way it flowed together.

@luluvohn: Im actually not a fan of the first one for a few reasons;
- cost, too pricey is too pricey and its really not a dress I can see anyone wearing again (the second one I can see being worn many times);
- fabric, but not just because it compliments your dress better, but more because its a very unforgiving fabric (while chiffon is very forgiving);
- comfort, the first dress looks far less comfortable than the second.
I think there was another point but I totally forgot it :S

@lindseyl06: I think it probably is. I look at the photos from when we went to the store to try them on and I’m just more drawn to the first one. I don’t dislike the second, I just like the first better.

The first dress has pleats!!!! Anyone with the smallest tummy is going to look pregnant.
The second dress is beautiful!

I always think satin is too shiny, so it looks cheaper. I prefer the second dress by a lot.

First of all, your dress is fantastic! 🙂
I voted “dress 2” for bridesmaids dresses. Both choices are absolutely gorgeous but I think the second dress is a better option because it’s cheaper and because chiffon is a much better fabric to spend all day in than satin. Have you ever sat down in a satin dress? I swear it wrinkles if you even look at it the wrong way! Not picture-friendly, my friend!

i like dress 2 better, but go with whatever you want. i don’t think it matters with materials matching.

Personally I am just a person that doesn’t like satin-y anything. When I went shopping for my dress, I refused to try on anything that was satin-y. That being said, the structure of the first dress is nice and the dress is pretty, but I feel like the flowy material and neckline on the second dress is much more flattering (and not just b/c of my satin bias, lol).
Plus less expensive and wearability a second time is a way better deal!

I think chiffon would go better, and I always just prefer chiffon over any other bridesmaid dress fabric anyway.

I think the second dress is GORGEOUS! I would way rather wear that than the first dress (sorry…)
Especially if it’s cheaper! (But is it $20 cheaper or $200 cheaper?)

@jlc3: I hate satin too, which makes it weird that I like the first one. I don’t know why I even like it so much. Just something about it. Seeing how many people like the second one really helps.
@MsMeow: Thank you! You can’t even see the amazing train in that photo.
@BrandNewBride: It depends on the store. Based on the last price I got from RK Bridal, where we were going to order them (except now they don’t appear to have the second one anymore), it was about a $20 difference.
