I am a planner so I would love to get a save the date 10-12 months in advance if it is a destination wedding. I need to schedule vacation time, get a sitter, and save up.

I think around the 9 month mark is soon enough. That’s plenty of time for people to plan for it. But, don’t send anything until you have a firm date. You and your parents can informally spread the “October 2012 in Las Vegas” word by mouth until you get the date figured out.

We are getting married on Oct 20, 2012 and we just sent out our save the dates about a week ago but only to the out of town guest. I figure 10 1/2 months is more then enough time to allow our out of town family and friends to save up, find sitters, make their calender and request time off (lol). This way, they really have no excuse not to be able to make it with 10.5 months away. Most of the out of town guest was happy with the time and said, they would start making plans and save from now. We are sending the in town save the dates in April which is still 6 months before our wedding.
