we sent postcards we designed ourselves which a lot of people liked. they’re fun & easy, plus you can get them in many sizes & shapes. my cousin from the day i got engaged, was bugging me for a save the date keychain bottle opener. i have no idea where you’d get such a thing but maybe an "object" would work rather than a magnet. ive heard some negativity towards magnets altho i think they are pretty cool.

How about a calendar with your date circled?  Different, useful and easy to understand.

I did postcards though, which were super affordable. We had a mint julep on the postcard and wrote "It was mint to be"

We had a couple others we rejected – maker’s mark bottle – Mark the date.  and other’s I can’t remember now.

we also did postcards. we had a travel themed wedding and our postcards were airline/passport stamp themed and our message was "pack your bags." we’ve also gotten bookmark STD’s before.

We thought about magnets, and I also think they are pretty cool.  But really, we decided that the percentage of our guest list that actually wants a picture of us on their refrigerator long term was not big enough to justify the cost.  (You know how you put up some of the Xmas photos, and toss the rest after the holiday.)  And we were not fabulously happy with the quality of a lot of the magnet samples we ordered.  As a consolation, and since we fell in love with the photo cards from lil’ duck duck, we are going to have thank you cards with our wedding photo, at least for some of the guests.

Not being that techie, and having decided that we were not going to do any invitation DIY, we just ordered our STDs from Wedding Paper Divas.  Another idea I saw and liked was luggage tags (for a destination wedding).  You might look at some of the custom favor options for inspiration – matchbooks, playing cards, m&ms, etc.  I also liked the idea of the STD sticker that people can put on their calender, but wasn’t happy with the quality of the samples we got – but that is something that you could do on your own computer if you had a pretty good printer.

hi there, i did do magnet save the dates, we are just about to send them, since we just passed the 6 month marker a few days ago… we went through MagnetStreet.com i think the cost was $167 for 150 mags.  we used one of our engagement pics from our photographer and they turned out great.  i know many people who LOVED having a reminder pic/ mag on their fridge, for the sake of remembering to book airline/ hotel arrangements. just don’t send them out a year in advance… i’d say 5-6 months is long enough notice if you go the route of a magnet.

they sent me a link to an EXTREMELY large online proof prior to confirming my order so if you would like to view it take a look here….

Tell us more about your wedding, feel colors etc.  Maybe that will get you more creative ideas. What do you mean that you are tech savvy?  Do you want a computer themed STD or just feel like you could put together something complicated.

I’ve seen one couple do MARBLE magnets, and it was absolutely cute!  They did six altogether, two with a picture of them each, one with their wedding date, and three with save the date.  They put them in little metal tins along with a little card with wedding website, location, and addressing that a formal invitation will follow.  I have a picture of it if you’d like me to email you, just message me!

I agree with bearbride… you guys are hot!

We’re going to do a combo of the magnet/postcard idea.  We’re going to design the postcard w/ a photobooth strip with our names, date, etc.  And then on the side where you normally write your message, we’re going to glue/stick/adhesive/Xyron a small envelope and put the STD magnet into the envelope.  So if you want the envelope, there it is… if you just want a postcard reminder, you got that, too.

OR you can be uber-STD friendly and stick the postcard on your fridge using the magnet 😉

I personally am not a fan of magnet Save the Date’s with the couples picture on it.  As much as I like my friends, i’m not about to put up a picture of them on my fridge.  (And my fiance and I are just way too picky about our interior design and anything that doesn’t match, doesn’t get put up)

It’s hard to explain the design but it’s an invite (that does have our picture) with the date/location info and with magnets incorporated into the design, their are two magnets about 1×2 size with our monogram on one and the date on the other.  It’s kind of like briannie’s idea, that you can either just use the magnets, or use the magnets to hold up the invite.  That way they have a choice if they do want to see our faces for the next few months 🙂

Once I take a picture of them, I’ll post them here so you can see them.
