I sent mine through the mail and had no issues. They were magnets of the same size, I just dropped them in the mail slot and they were all delivered with no problem. The only thing to watch out for is some of the envelopes stuck together due to the magnets! Hope this helps!
I mailed close to 100 with no problem at all. I did have a backing card on mine, so that may have helped...
I mailed 100 as well and had no problems. I also had a backing - but was advised by a friend to make sure the "magnet" part (the side without your save-the-date info) faced towards the back of the envelope (the part where you lick it shut).

Hello Bees!
Would like your input please. I just returned from my local post office and asked about mailing my save the date magnets. The envelope is 3.5" x 5" and meets the minimum envelope size for a first-class $.44 stamp. However, the clerk was skeptical about the magnets going through their machines properly, and that I might have to pay an additional $.20 per envelope to cancel them by hand.
When they asked me how many I planned to mail, I said that i had 80 envelopes and the clerk suggested that I only mail a few initially, to see if they are returned to me as unmailable, or arrive at my guests home without an issue.
So I chose to mail only 5 envelopes at this time - one each to my parents, my brother, my future in-laws, my FBIL, and FSIL.
Anyone else who sent Save-The-Date magnets have an issue at the post office?
