Haha, yes! I have had quite a few people thank me for their “invitation,” and I have to tell them that it isn’t their invitation… Oy!

Save the dates are, from what I understand, a relatively new phenomenon! (And another one of the things I’d never heard of before the bee.. The first few times I read STD I was like what the heck?!)

So it’s moderately understandable that maybe some of the older generations just don’t quite get it! Just calmly assure them to mark the date on the calendar, book it off if they have to (save the date..) and await the invitation with further instruction!

That should cure their woes 🙂

@elliptical2013:  I put my wedding website on our STDs too. I don’t think anyone has even gone to look at it/noticed it.  I have the same information as you, plus, on the home page it says “Formal Invitations will be sent out approximately three months prior to our wedding date of September 20th, 2014.  Please check back around that time as we will be adding Ceremony and Reception information to the website!”  Haha.

My family wouldn’t have known what the hell they were so I skipped them and saved myself the money, lol. Don’t fret though – now they’ll know for next time! You’re the trailblazer!

@elliptical2013:  We wrote “a formal invitation to follow” on ours and people thanked us for the invitation.  I figured they just don’t have “save the date” in their vocabularies (and why would they?  it’s all people my parents’ age and my friends who haven’t been to a lot of weddings).  I’m not worried about it.  They have the date, and if they’re confused, they’ll ask.

I really don’t get the point of STDs. Sounds like another cash grab to me. Why not just send out wedding invitations a bit earlier?

Cash grab?? I’m confused. Never heard that one before on here.
