@sammopup:  I think you should send the same, regular Save-the-Date to all of your guests. Whether they’re going to attend just the ceremony, just the party or both — they still need to save the date. 

Your formal invitations will tell them exactly what it is they’re being invited to attend. No need to get into all of that now.

I would send save the dates to only the VIP and people you really really know you want to invite – so leave out the ones you’re not so close to or are on the fence about.

Why?  Because if you send an STD then you HAVE to send an invitation.  However, not all invitation receivers NEED an STD nor are STDs even mandatory.  That way, should you have a fallout with someone, or drift apart in the next X months, you just saved yourself an invitation.

 

Of cousre consider social circles in case any of the people know each other.
