Invitations are to be sent 6-8 weeks before the event.  It is not polite to ask guests to commit any earlier then that, not to mention that the answers you get may not be valid.

STD’s can be sent up to a year a head of time.  Though really I think STD’s are more trouble then they are worth, and very often lead to brides wanting to change their mind closer to the date.

We sent ours out about ten months out I think. I was on the fence about them but given that most of our guest are flyin gor driving in, we wanted to give them heads up to save up, probably take friday off of work if they are coming from the west coast.

We going to send out intiations out eight weeks out. Which is early too but again 65 percent of our guest are out of town.

I think if most of your guest are in town. You can do save the dates six months before. Invites four weeks out.

@Mrs_Harmer_to_be:  I sent mine out about 8 months in advance. My wedding is over labor day weekend so I wanted guests , especially the VERY important ones, to have plenty of notice 🙂 I plan to do invites about 6-8 weeks in advance.

Our STDs were about 11 months in advance, and the invitations will go out the last week of June (8 weeks).
