Is it necessary to send out Save the Dates? We are having just close family and a few close friends to our wedding and I am not sure if this is necessary.
What are other brides doing? If you should how far in advance should they be sent out?

Are you having a destination wedding? If you’re only inviting close friends and it’s local, I really don’t see the point of sending Save the Dates. However, if many of your guests are coming from out of town it’s nice to give them a heads up further in advanced.

I am getting married August 23 2014 and my app from theknot.com says to send out save the dates on Jan 11. I think we will do it close to that time. We are having my bridal shower in March because my sister will be in town so we should send out the save the dates before the shower :).

@mimee03: Hey date twin! We are doing the same thing, sometime in January for the Save the Dates. We’re having engagement photos taken in two weeks and I’m hoping we’ll have a shot from that in time to use them!

We are only having about 50 guests at our wedding. I sent out STD’s because there is information on our site we wanted them to know ahead of time. Plus, our wedding is June 21st, prime graduation party time.
ETA: I sent them out at the beginning of October, about 8 months prior.
