"save the dates" for vow renewals?

Save the Dates are used for more formal events.

Unless your vow renewal is black or white tie, I wouldn’t use them.

Just send your invitations two months before.

Be prepared that many people may not show up, since you are renewing your vows on a weekday and some people cannot get the time off from work.

My vow renewal will be on a Saturday evening, so that my guests will be able to be there.

I see why your husband wanted to marry on your actual anniversary. If your vow renewal is later in the day, it might be easier for people to show up. Venues are often cheaper during the week as well.

Is your vow renewal going to be formal?

Yes, our vow renewal will be very intimate yet formal. My husband is wearing a tux because he wore a suit when we got married. My dress will be a ballgown without a long train and the renewal will start at 6PM. I’m not going to bother with save the dates since our event will be so small.

@megan331979:

It will be three years in October, thought my husband and I have been together for six years.

I don’t like birdcage veils on me and a long veil would be too much, so a tiara is a good option.

@megan331979:  We had a courthouse wedding last May (military couple) and our big wedding, which is technically a vow renewal, is October. I sent out STD’s and am treating the entire affair as though it is our one and only wedding. Do what feels comfortable for you, and what you think fits with your event.

@AirForceWife78:

Your situation makes complete sense. I hear of many military couples who treat their vow renewals as their wedding, because of circumstances unique to the military.

I would send Save The Dates if my event was going to be large. However, for a small group of under 30 guests I don’t think Save The Dates are needed.

I think it depends how far people are traveling.  If they’re all local, I wouldn’t bother, but if people have to travel it might be a good idea.  Or just send the invitations out a little earlier than you normally would.
