I never even considered save the date cards, but read a lot today on the bee about them. Our date is 9/3, Labor Day weekend, and we’ve verbally talked to a good portion of our guests about the date. All our family members have already put aside that weekend for us. Now that I’ve read what a lot of you had to say about STDs, I’m wondering if I need to do that? Knowing so many folks make end-of-summer vacation plans around Labor Day weekend, and it can be so easy to forget something mentioned in a casual chat, I’m thinking I ought to do STDs.
Looks like I just talked myself into it!
So what’s included in a STD card? Just the date and time? Venue? Any other details? I’ve never received one, I guess that’s why I never thought of doing them myself.

We are doing save-the-dates for our wedding on 9/8 and plan to send them out next weekend. Most of our family and friends know when our wedding is, but it was important for us send them out as we have lots of out-of-town guests.
Go to vistaprint.com and look for wedding save-the-dates. It pretty much tells you all you need. We have our names, the wedding date, the wedding city and then they usually conclude with something like:
For more information visit our website at
formal invitation to follow.
Pretty simple and basic.

- Wedding: September 2012 - Private Residence
We’re also getting married labor day weekend and sent them out because I figure that myself, am always busy that time of year, and even if someone tells me something, I never remember it until I write it down 🙂 For us, even though most of ours are family, I think it gives heads up to those friends, etc. that I don’t talk with everyday, in case they forget too.

We’re getting married September 22 and I’m waiting on our cards to arrive from Vistaprint before we send them out so I think you’re still ok, time-wise!

@woodpecker: Date Twin!
OP: I think because it’s a holiday weekend, STDs are a really good idea. I’m getting married the same weekend and sent mine out already, but I think you still have plenty of time. It’s good to give a heads up to guests since people do plan vacations around then.
