We sent our STDs to everyone, but only because I'm anal like that. I think it's perfectly okay to send STDs to just OOT folks. However, keep in mind that a lot of people do not know what STDs are and will think they are invitations (despite not including important wedding info on them). Several of our guests kept refering to our STDs as our invites. I didn't correct them, I just politely nodded. They'll get the picture when they get the actual invite lol.
Yeah, we're just doing a tiny little postcard for the STDs, I hope they don't get that mixed up with a real invite!! Oh well, I figure they just need STDs if they're going to be traveling, booking flights, hotels etc. Just wondering if people thought it was a big deal.
We had this debate too. We invited 120, 88 of whom are OOT, so then it seemed silly to "exclude" the remaining in-town folks... so we just ended up sending them to everyone.
We didn't do STDs but sending them to OOT guests (and maybe friends who are known to be super forgetful, LOL!) seems like a great solution and would save you a couple bucks!
i think that's fine! i sent them to everyone just because i was really anxious to actually get something out after planning so long. my guest list is half oot and half local.
I honestly wasn't going to do STDs, but our wedding date got moved (closer) so I needed to let everyone know. However, I could not justify the cost when they will just get thrown out (probably faster than an invitation), and an invitation will follow in a couple months. I did online STDs, that specifically said "Save the Date" and "please inform us of your address so we can send a formal invitation" and I still had people RSVP. Not that it matters, I really don't care, I just think STDs are "usually" interpretted as important because they are money makers, and guests really don't care (or understand!).
IMO

What do you think? Save the dates only for people who are going to have to travel? Everyone in town already knows the date and will be getting their invites of course.
