huh, i hadn't thought of this before! i think a lot can change between the time you send the save the dates and the actual invitation, so it might be easier to just wait about the "guest" part. the invites will still give people plenty of time to invite a guest if they want, and gives you some flexibility with the guest count if you need.
I wouldn't put "and guest" on an STD, since it's not an invitation and "guest" doesn't need to put anything in his or her calendar! ;) Let the person you are inviting know that he/she should hold the date, and then invite him/her with the guest (preferably by name) when you send the invitations.
I put "and guest" on mine only because a lot of people will be traveling and I wanted to let them know far in advance that if they were to make travel arrangments, they would know they had a "guest" that could also make arrangments at the same time.
NOt sure if this same situation applies to you though.

When addressing your save the dates, did you include the "and guest" or just wait until the invitations to include guests?
