Quany76:  Many of my family members will be coming in from out of state, so we have been told to get our save the dates out with plenty of time for everyone to make arrangements. For our Oct 2015 wedding we are sending out save the dates in January/February 2015. Our invitations are heading out next July.

Do most of your guests already know you are doing a destination wedding? Do you have a date set…as long as you don’t need people to book by a certain date, if you have a room block or some kind of group rate set up, then you should be just fine. 9 months is plenty of time I think.

We sent out STDs like 13 months before hand, because we had just booked and had a group rate for the first 30 guests. So they needed to put down a deposit to book with that special rate within 90 days of us booking.

I’m debating on when to send formal invites out myself. I have a good idea from my travel agent how many people have booked with her so far but I know some people will book last minute or book separately, so was thinking about sending out formal invites with rsvp cards in January for our May 8th wedding. I feel like most people should know by then if they are going to book or have booked already.

EDIT: If I use the words “book” or “booked” one more time, permission to slap me through the screen is permitted, lol. I just re-read this and facepalmed.

I don’t think 8-9 months is too late. We just sent our STDs for an April wedding. My FMIL wanted to send out a year in advance, so that was our compromise. Generally invites go out 6-8 weeks before so at the very least there would be 6 months between. When I saw the tile I was imagining much closer.
