My Fiancee and I have been living together, and as a result there are very few things we actually need to register for. That said, we would like to start saving for a house. There are some great sites out there that let people contribute money toward these kinds of savings (or honeymoon funds, etc)… but the fees are so high! Hatch My House charges either the gifter or the recipient 5.8%! Others are around 5-6%. Anyone know of one with more reasonable fees? Or, better yet… no fees at all? Online gifting of funds is a great convenience, but I don’t think our guests want to give a gift to some middle-man!

This is somewhat of a hot topic on the Bee that ends up being very divisive.
Like you said, most people don’t want to give a gift to Wells Fargo (or whoever else is administering your fund). Any sort of fee will turn off a lot of guests. I, personally, am very opposed to these types of registies, but that’s mainly because my family and social circle would not approve of registering for cash (which is basically what these funds are).
I would suggest having a very small registry of things you’d like to upgrade or any other things you want for the house that you don’t have. After that, have your parents and bridal party spread it via word of mouth that you’re saving for a house. People will get the hint!
